Spirit of the Lake (from Legend of the Lake) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Glyn, Gareth - Noble, Paul
The origins of Legend of the Lake lie in music Gareth Glyn composed for a film which wove a tale of smuggling, treachery and unrequited love into the fabric of old legends, some dating from Celtic times, about one of the many sacred lakes of Anglesey. Whether the music depicts the fleet-footedness of smugglers' ponies, the summary punishment of outlaws or the bittersweetness of remembrance, the theme of the Spirit of the Lake, first heard on a distant trumpet at the beginning, is never far away.

The Very Best Time of Year (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Rutter, John - Noble, Paul
This is another beautiful and luscious carol from John Rutter, and the setting is easy to moderately easy. The arrangement is written and intended for combined Wind Band and Chorus. However, it is also arranged so that it is complete with Wind Band alone. The choral part is shown in the conductor's score, but is not included in the set. This arrangement is compatible with the published vocal score.

Amsterdam Suite (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Curtis, Matthew - Noble, Paul
The Amsterdam Suite, written in 1995 and first performed by the Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra the following year, seeks to convey some impressions of a city I have visited several times. It opens with the waltz sequence, Barrel Organs, recalling the hurdy-gurdies positioned at strategic points in the city with the aim of parting tourists with their loose change. The tunes, however, are mine rather than an attempt to reproduce the real thing. Amsterdam takes its Saturday nights seriously, with the result that those who get up (or are still up) early on Sunday morning will find themselves in eerily deserted streets, whose atmosphere to me suggests one instrument above all, the saxophone, which plays a prominent part in Lonely City. The Saturday nights themselves are depicted in Trams and Crowds. I have taken liberties with the chronology for the obvious musical reason of wanting to go out with a bang rather than a whimper. The basic structure is very much that used by Eric Coates for similar piece, a bustling outer section with a quick march trio, presented in a fuller and more embellished orchestration on each of its three appearances. - Matthew Curtis.

This cycle of short miniatures, in a light music vein, seeks to represent various aspects of the sea as seen from five vantagepoints around the coast of Anglesey. The whole work is bound together by recurring musical motifs which change their character according to the prevailing mood. 1. Llanddwyn (Reverie): Island of the Welsh patron saint of lovers, Dwynwen, whose marriage to Maelon was never to be, and who dedicated her life to God. 2. Malltraeth (Pastorale): A brisk walk along Cob Malltraeth, a high dyke built to keep out the sea. 3. Penmon (Intermezzo): From a vantage point by the sacred priory of St Seiriol, old sailing ships and modern yachts can be seen scudding by in Regatta week. 4. Cemaes (Scherzo): The bustle of children's play and donkey-rides on the beach in midsummer. 5. Moelfre (Elegy): In remembrance of innumerable souls lost in shipwrecks off this coast, including the Royal Charter with its loss of 452 lives.
