    Reverie - Robert Schumann

Severe and permanent damage to this hand prevented Robert Schumann from pursuing a career as a concert pianist. However, this tragedy allowed Schumann to compose an exquisite body of work, including orchestra, chamber and vocalworks. He most frequently composed for his own instrument, the piano. Henk Hogestein has chosen the famous Reverie from Scenes from Childhood and turned it into a moving arrangement for concert band. Dur: 3:00

The Bones of Mr. Fortune - Adolphus Hailstork

THE BONES OF MR. FORTUNE (FREE AT LAST!) is an 11-minute concerto-like work for solo flute accompanied by symphonic winds and percussion - perfect to play with band or with orchestra, as well as with the composer's own piano reduction (114-42424). The work was erroneously thought to be lost for over 100 years until a piano transcription published in 1896 was found in the Library of Congress. This edition received its first performance by the United States Marine Band on June 6, 2012, which is also the date the actual transit of Venus occurred.
