Prelude to Richard III (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Walton, William - Noble, Paul
In 1955, Walton received two honorary doctorates: from the Universities of Cambridge and London. He also composed this Shakespeare film music for Laurence Olivier, Richard III, one of three Shakespearean film scores by Walton. The music in Prelude to Richard III is not duplicated in A Shakespeare Suite from Richard III which follows next in sequence. Each piece is a complement to the other, and would be a perfect pair on a concert program.

Prelude No.20 (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Chopin, Frederic - Brubaker, Jerry
Frederic Chopin's Prelude No.20 is familiar since it was used as introductory material for Barry Manilow's "Could It Be Magic." The rich chordal style in a minor key evokes a mildly sombre mood and will be a satisfying program addition. Duration: 3.00

Prelude on an Irish Folk Tune (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip
The Irish folk tune, which appears towards the end of the piece, is Slane, a hymn tune version of the much older folk melody The Banks of the Bann. In Prelude on an Irish Folk Tune, fragments of the folk tune hint at what is to come later in the piece, but another folk-like tune is predominant. This later acts as a descant to Slane when it finally appears. Add a little Sparke sparkle to any concert with this lovely interlude.Duration: 4:00

Prelude for an Occasion (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Gregson, Edward
This curtain raiser sets a lively mood by bursting into a fanfare, followed by a short bouncing figure and a lively clarinet solo. Rhythmic bi-play, trombone glissandi and a light-hearted obbligato, all add to the merriment. The opening fanfare returns in extended form, and a final flourish brings the Prelude to a triumphant ending.

Majestic Prelude (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Haan, Jacob
In Majestic Prelude the instrumental music is closely connected to the text and vocal music. The work is based on a well-known psalm melody. As the title suggest, it begins with a majestic introduction, in which several sections of the psalm are heard. Various instruments play around with fragments of the familiar tune. This composition is an excellent opening piece for a concert!Duration: 2:45

Centennial Prelude (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Van der Roost, Jan
This short opening music was composed on commission of the symphonic band of Jan Van der Roost's village (= Kontich near Antwerp / Belgium). In 1991, this community band celebrated its 100th anniversary. After composing commissioned pieces from different countries (even from Japan), this was the most 'near' commission he ever received indeed! It is a short but varied piece, featuring all sections of the band. After a short introduction, played by the brass instruments, a crisp rhythm starts and boxes the main theme. After a second theme, played by brass and percussion, a short melodical passage brings some 'rest'. At the end, the fanfare of the introduction reoccurs. Although this "Centennial Prelude" isn't a really demanding piece, it sounds colourful and energetic. It has been recorded on CD by the band of the 'Royal Dutch Airforce' and the 'Desford Colliery Brass band'.Duration: 3:30
