In the Red is an original brass band musical by Brand, Michael and Ian Chippendale. It is based on Robert Tressell's famous socialist novel, The Ragged-Trousered Philanthropists, which describes the trials and tribulations, the humour and the marriages of working-class life in Edwardian England. This powerful book has been allied to a powerful score and the show ends with the show's hero, Will Easton, exorting all the working men - painter and decorators - to embrace socialism and overthrow the bosses. In this Song of Socialism, the men start marching to a new destiny. It never happened in England of course, but it did elsewhere! The composer has now arranged this stirring march for Concert Band

The Red Tower was inspired by the painting of the same name (La Torre Rossa) by the Italian artist Giorgio de Chirico, and was awarded first prize in the International Composition Contest in Oman. One of the towers of the mediaeval walls of the Italian town of Soncino (home to the band for whom Johan de Meij wrote the work for) shows a remarkable resemblance to the tower in the work of De Chirico. Commissioned by the Military Wives Choirs to commemorate the centenary of 1918, the end of the First World War. The Military Band Accompaniment is available separately - NOV167387To mark the centenary of the end of World War I, the Military Wives Choirs - 69 choirs from across Britain and abroad - commissioned Owain to write a piece for their album, 'Remember'. The text for Owain's work, 'The Poppy Red', is inspired by the 1918 poem 'We Shall Keep The Faith' by Moina Michael, itself inspired by John McCrae's 'In Flanders Fields'. The recording brought together 1105 voices with The Band of the Household Cavalry, conducted by Hilary Davan Wetton.
