    Dive! - Nick Costanza

Inspired by his home town of Sebastian on the east coast of Florida, Nicholas Constanza wrote Dive! to share his childhoods spent at the Indian River and coastal beaches. This piece paints the scene of diving underwater, getting swept up by a fast current, and discovering wonders beneath the surface. The driving eighth-note pulse reflects the swift current while the main theme represents the wonders that might be hidden beneath the surface. A wonderful concert and festival selection, students will enjoy playing this dynamic piece for more experienced bands.

    Land of Pharaohs

The mystery and romance surrounding Egypt's Nile river, expansive deserts, mighty pyramids, Valley of the Kings, and legacy of art and culture has inspired generations of men and women around the globe. In ancient Egypt, the word "Pharaoh" meant "Great House," referring first to the royal palace itself and later to the ruler in power as an official title of leadership. Land of the Pharaohs is a short, musical depiction of the power that the ancient Pharaohs once held and the drama that has captivated mankind since the end of their long reign.

    Catawba Crossing

Named for the beautiful Catawba River, this piece begins with a brilliant fanfare, revealing the principle motive upon which the entire composition is based. Shifting tonalities and colorful scoring are the hallmark of the opening section. This is followed by an expressive con moto section that provides the piece with dramatic contrast. Once the opening theme returns, Catawba Crossing develops into a rousing march in 6/8 time, followed by a return to the opening material, bringing the piece to an exciting conclusion. Cav Party (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob

Cav Party was commissioned by The Band of the Household Cavalry in 2020. The idea was to showcase the various musical elements of the band in a party piece that gets more boisterous as it goes on. It utilises three Eighteenth century melodies associated with the band, starting off with a folkish setting of Handel's March from Scipio for harp, violin, flute and cor anglais (all fully cued on regular wind band instruments) and then into Keel Row where the accordion is featured before the whole band enters, and finally to Money Musk. Both Keel Row and Money Musk are played as Trot Marches by the band. The regimental slow march Scipio comes from Handel's opera of 1725 The Mercy of Scipio, which was based on the life of the Roman General Scipio Africanus.Keel Row is a traditional folk song evoking the life and work of the keelmen of Newcastle upon Tyne. It was first published in 1770, although it could be considerably older. The opening lines of the song describe Sandgate, the part of the quayside overlooking the River Tyne to the east of the city centre where the keelmen lived.Money Musk, also known as Monymusk or Monnymusk was originally a pipe tune composed by Scottish fiddler Daniel (sometimes Donald) Dow (1732 - 1783) in 1776. It takes its name from a baronial estate in Aberdeenshire, Scotland called Monymusk House. The tune first appeared in Dow's Thirty Seven New Reels, c. 1780 under the title Sir Archibald Grant of Monemusk's Reel.Duration: 3.45
