Composer Robert Spittal was moved to complete this work in response to the Newtown, Connecticut tragedy in 2012, and serves as a reflection of our complicated feelings of grief and loss. The music is simple and direct, and meant as a hopeful work for young players. Moved by a metaphor describing the victims as "twenty-six new diamonds in the sky", the title is a reference to the stars which we look upward to for inspiration, for hope, and to dream of better things to come.

Festive Dances - Robert Thurston
Robert Thurston's enormously attractive writing for band and his sure command of contemporary harmonic and rhythmic devices give this three movement composition by terrific band and audience appeal. This is on of the group Chicago's most popular ballads, still doing great after beeing recorded in 1972 on their fifth album. Chicago's main songsriter, Robert lamm, wrote this after a particulary exhilarating 4th of July spen in New York's Central Park, where there were steel drum players, singers, dancers and jugglers. This was originally used as a soundtrack to an unreleased home video. It became the group's first gold single.
