Infernal Galop (Can Can from Orpheus in the Underworld) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Offenbach, Jacques - VanDoren, Evan
Jacques Offenbach's "Infernal Galop", or "Can-Can" as it is more often called, has been reimagined throughout history. From classical composers such as Saint-Saens, to more modern uses in movies, television, and even video games, the timeless appeal of Offenbach's melody is without question. Evan VanDoren's arrangement for concert band is a perfect addition to any concert. Particularly effective as a closing selection or encore, this recognizable flourish will have your audience on their feet. Highly recommended! Duration: 2.15

Eine Kleine Klarinette Musik (Clarinet Solo with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob
A solo for solo clarinet and band featuring the well-known tune from Mozart's Eine kleine Nachtmusik. I have always thought that Woody Herman's Golden Wedding is a great showpiece for clarinet. He takes a tune entitled La Cinquantaine by the French Romantic composer Jean Gabriel-Marie (1852 - 1928) and sets it as a big band swing piece complete with Krupa Toms. In seeking to emulate it I suddenly realised that the Rondo from Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik K.525 had very much the same character if I presented it in a minor key. It was then really just a matter of organizing the various sections, setting them in a swing manner and adding a cadenza-like passage. There is, of course, a strong connection between Mozart and the clarinet. It was fun to write and will hopefully be a fun solo vehicle for clarinettists. - Rob Wiffin. Duration: 3.30

Conversations (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wilson, Chandler L.
In the American Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson wrote, "If there's something wrong, those who have the ability to take action have the responsibility to take action..." Chandler Wilson's "Conversations" is based on the idea of conversations that are needed for society to progressively move forward, most profoundly in the areas of racial issues and equality. The music eloquently expresses the importance of considering and respecting the points of view of other's. A musical work which is truly thought-provoking. Duration: 6.00

Pioneers of the Medway (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Phillips, Richard
The Salvation Army Band in my home town of Chatham, part of a conurbation of 5 towns in the South East of England known as the Medway Towns, celebrated their 135th anniversary in 2016 and this piece was composed as part of those celebrations. I suppose to some degree all composers and lyricists are pioneers, always striving to write something different and new. Well, there has been a number of 'creatives' who at one time or another have been members of the Chatham Corps and this piece includes songs from some of those. The opening motif is based on the 1st 3rd and 5th notes of the scale and after a short 'fanfare-like' introduction the tune of Blacklands (Ray Steadman-Allen) is heard in 4/4 time. This is followed by a song from Ray Jones, a former Bandmaster of the Corps entitled 'On resurrection day', a song for children's voices published in 1971 and for mixed voices in 2009. Rosemary Steadman-Allen's 'To know and do thy will' is at the heart of the link into 'Everywhere', a new setting of John Gowans' words by Andrew Maycock (both former members) which is proving to be very popular at the moment. Finally, an arrangement of this composer's setting of 'Praise the Lord' is used to bring this piece to its conclusion. It was first performed on October 1st 2016 by the Chatham band under the leadership of Bandmaster Ray Maycock.

Celestial Prospect (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Heaton, Wilfred - Wheeler, Alastair
Wilfred Heaton's compositions have a worldwide appreciation and although his output was small it is work of the highest integrity and calibre. The history surrounding 'Celestial Prospect' is somewhat sketchy. The composer describes it as a 're-casting' of an earlier work written sometime in the 1940's the score of which is now lost. The theme 'Come comrades dear' has been known from Christian Mission days and reflects the composer's penchant for old Salvation Army tunes which are simple and direct in character. The following 5 variations contain much interest and originality including a beautiful 'elegy to departed comrades.

The Seville Suite, Highlights from (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Whelan, Bill - De Meij, Johan
The success of Bill Whelan's Riverdance evolved from a concept for music and dance that he established earlier with The Seville Suite, his first major orchestral composition. The Seville Suite was commissioned for Ireland's National Day at the World Expo 1992 in Seville, Spain. Through the score, Whelan tells the story of legendary Irish war hero Red Hugh O'Donnell. At a mere 21 years of age, O'Donnell successfully led a rebellion against the English government in 1593. Johan de Meij's arrangement is an adaptation featuring highlights from the original suite.
