This arrangement was made for The Suoni Wind Orchestra of Skien, Norway, and performed for the first time at their Promenade Concert "At Sea" at the Ibsen Culture Center, March 8th 2014, being the final number of the concert. Participating this concert was also the Choir Canto Libre and the two vocal soloists were Eli Kristin Hansveen and Andreas Hoff. Since that time this arrangement has been used also at other concerts involving choir and soloists. It is important that tempo is not too slow and one has to be thorough with details in the percussion parts. Firefly was composed by award-winning composer Simon Dobson (b.1981) to provide an entertaining up-tempo concert work for community and youth bands. Composed in funk-rock style, and is based on the groove beat with which it opens. Dobson says,"Firefly was written as a break from my more serious music and as a 'hat tip' to the various types of beat orientated music I listen to." Kare Grottum is known to most as a pianist and producer by NRK. He was involved in numerous TV productions, both as producer, musician, composer, and arranger. This tune is taken from a CD released in 1992, Fra en musikers dagbok where he brings with him several Norwegian soloists of international class. It is Erling Wicklund who does a brilliant solo on Flugabone which has also used as a starting point for the written improvisation. The arrangement should be played in a slightly swinging way, but not as much as a jazz waltz. Play with the straight eighths and then let it flow, with a faint two against three feeling, which clearly shows up in some places. If you do not have bassoon and oboe, let alto sax and tenor sax make up the duet from 9. Enjoy! Solo Options: C BC Instruments; Bb TC Instruments; Eb TC Instruments. Duration: 4.15

A very exciting and contemporary work that is descriptive of the tragedy that occurred in Central America in 1541 when a long quiet volcano that had filled with water suddenly erupted, sending mud and water covering the city of Ciudad Vieja killing many and completely wiping out the city. The name of that volcano was Agua, which on that day brought whelm on to everything that its waters touched. This is the second published work by young composer Cory McBride and was written when he was a 16 year old high school student. Bold, unique and distinctive, includes solos for flute, tenor sax, bari sax & horn and it's an excellent programming choice for any festival or concert performance by better bands.
