It opens with a slow, legato presentation of the melody stated by solo trumpet followed by the first lively variation, driven by a strong rhythmic accompaniment. The second variation features an alto saxophone solo that builds and alternates between woodwind and brass choirs before closing with a majestic fanfare and the full ensemble driving to a jubilant conclusion. An Olympic Celebration - Robert Buckley
An Olympic Celebration is a tribute to the pursuit of excellence and the triumph of the human spirit. This piece was commissioned by The West Vancouver Youth Band for the build up to the 2010 Winter Olympics. The initial "festive fanfare", based on open fifths moving in contrary motion, brings the athletes out into the arena. This leads to the "parade of the athletes" theme. Then comes the establishment of the "heroic theme" in the woodwinds and horns - moving through different sections - until the transition, with an alto saxophone solo and an oboe solo, leading into the "flashback" section. Here we go into the minds of the athletes and the internal and physical struggles thathave brought them to this place. The melody is epic; rich in feeling and full of heart. This moves through various moods until the introduction of the "challenge" theme; a theme stated by the horns and trombones, which passes through the different sections of the band. A restatement of the "flashback" theme, this time triumphant, takes us to a final fanfare of celebration and jubilation.

Inspired by various science fiction films, the piece "Galactic Quest" offers an original vision of Space and the elements that constitute it. Take-off, black holes, milky voice, encounter of the 3rd type... In the middle of the piece, a solo part is set up and can be played on the synthesizer or the trombone. This piece is a nod to Thomas Pesquet, French astronaut and also saxophonist with an alto saxophone solo in the penultimate part.

This work for band is a setting of several delightful Moravian folk dances. "Stoji hruska v oudoli" is a fast-paced two-step dance. "Rozluc se Ancicko" features a clarinet solo in a mournful, yet lilting, slow 6/8 melody. "Preskoda nastokrat" is a highly rhythmic piece in a moderate tempo that features a brief double reed/piccolo section. "Ma zlata maticka" begins with an unaccompanied alto saxophone solo, then includes a folk dance that begins slowly and increases in tempo. "Vojaci jedou" is a proud and uplifting march in 3/4 time. "U Kltera pole" ends the rhapsody with a lively 2/4 dance that builds to a rousing conclusion. "Rising into a New Era" was commissioned by the city of Landeck in 2023 to commemorate its 100th anniversary since being declared a city. The composition serves as the introductory part of a trilogy, encapsulating the years from 1923 to 1956, depicting Landeck's transformation from a market town to a city. The outset of the piece is characterized by a reserved and hushed atmosphere, reflecting the initial uncertainty during a period of economic challenges. The optimistic anticipation of a new beginning is only echoed by the sound of the city's new bells. The central motif, threading throughout the entire composition, is derived from the name of the city: LAnDECk (A-D-E-C). This motif unfolds at the onset within the resonance of the city's bells, gradually evolving into the main theme through the gentle tones of the clarinets. Following the initial years of the burgeoning city, where a positive societal shift and newfound security are symbolized by a second musical theme, the sudden eruption of the Second World War disrupts this progress. A mournful melody, borrowed from the cheerful second theme of the piece, speaks of sorrow, nostalgia, yet also solace and hope for peace and freedom. A "Vivace furioso" captures the uncertainties and intense turbulence of the war. These tumultuous emotions gradually settle, culminating after a delicate oboe and saxophone solo into the now powerful main theme presented in the form of a majestic chorale. A "Vivace con bravura" brings the composition to a radiant conclusion, signifying a strengthened future for the city of Landeck.
