    Side Paths - Andreas Ziegelbäck

This symphonic wind orchestra piece is a homage to the painting "Main Path and Side Paths" by the painter and graphic artist Paul Ernst Klee. At the center of the painting runs a straight main path in vibrant colors, surrounded by irregular side paths that are nevertheless held in similar color tones.Just like in the painting, the piece repeats a short motif in various variations, while the surroundings of this motif constantly change, similar to the side paths in the painting. The color gradients and paths of the painting are considered an allegory of human life. Just as in our lives, ideas, goals, and desires constantly change, our path often leads through different routes. Even when we pursue a great goal, we usually reach it only through numerous detours and sometimes unexpected diversions. The piece carries a deep message of hope with a second theme: it encourages us to hold on to our dreams and pursue them with unwavering determination, even if the path is marked by unexpected turns and seemingly insurmountable obstacles. It is an ode to the youth around the world who are still at the beginning of their journey to realize their dreams. May it give them the strength and determination to continue their path undeterred even in the midst of the greatest challenges.

    Regentropfen - Carl Michael Ziehrer

Carl Michael Ziehrer was an Austrian composer best known for his waltzes and marches. One of his lesser-known but still charming works is the "Regentropfen Walzer" ("Raindrop Waltz"). This waltz is characterized by its lively yet gentle melody, which musically reflects the falling raindrops. Ziehrer, who was active in the second half of the 19th century, managed to capture the delicate and ephemeral nature of rain in this piece. The "Regentropfen Walzer" invites the listener to dream and is a beautiful example of the lightness and elegance that characterizes Ziehrer's music.

    Suite Pastorale - Franco Cesarini

Suite Pastorale, made up of three movements - Idyll, Playful Shepherd Boys, Rain Upon the Fields - is characterized by an idealization of the simplicity of country life in close contact with nature. Suite Pastorale depicts the eternal and fascinating myth of Arcadia: a world in which man lives in harmony with nature, immersed in bucolic forest landscapes, one of the most important imaginary places to escape to for those who were, and still are, tired of culture and civilization. The evocative Arcadian world is made almost mythological by the attention dedicated to it by poets, writers, playwrights, painters, and composers who over the centuries have drawn lifeblood from it for their works. Full of metaphorical meanings, it is a place of shelter, a place to live and sing about love, even if it means disappointment, and it is the place of civilization opposed to barbarism. It is a symbol of happiness, a real and intact image of reality, motionless in space and time, where nothing changes. The myth of the "locus amoenus" has not disappeared but has kept all its charm intact over the centuries.Suite Pastorale was commissioned to Franco Cesarini by the concert band of Aldeno (Trento/Italy) for the 100th anniversary of its foundation (1923-2023.Suite Pastorale: an ideal concert piece that will delight your audience!

    Waterfall - Gauthier Dupertuis

Gauthier Dupertuis was inspired to write the main theme of Waterfall by a stroll near a waterfall that is the pride of his hometown. This piece, composed during lockdown due to Covid-19, is also a reflection on homesickness. Waterfall also expresses the composer's feelings about enjoying a welcome break and return to his roots, which enabled him to spend more time with his loved ones. For him, this waterfall is a symbol: it's not the same water that flows there, but the waterfall is still there, the same as it was when he was a child, like a witness to times gone by. Waterfall is a work with a certain sentimental value for the composer in that it was his very first real composition. The work was premiered on 9th October 2020 by the Wind Band Societat Musical 'La Constncia' of Moixent (Spain) and was conducted by Jos Alberto Pina.

    Quadrille - Anton Bruckner

In September 2024, we celebrate the 200th birthday of the Upper Austrian composer and organist Anton Bruckner. Many of his well-known works have already been arranged for wind orchestras, but the Quadrille, originally composed for piano for four hands, is still missing in the repertoire. This arrangement by Andreas Ziegelbck aims to fill that gap, staying closer to the original piano version. While the six movements of the piece can be seen as standalone short pieces, it is recommended to perform all movements. This arrangement expands Anton Bruckner's repertoire for wind orchestras with a rarely played musical gem.

    Golden Hour - Georges Sadeler

Golden Hour" is a slow work that describes the magical moment of the golden hour before sunset, when the world melts into warm shades of colour. The setting sun bathes everything in a soft, golden light and nature shines in its most beautiful splendour and time seems to stand still. But darkness also slowly falls and the day takes its quiet farewell.

The Saint of the Forest - Thomas Doss

Whenever hikers got lost in the fog at the 'Steinernen Steg' in Burgebrach in the gloomy autumn and winter time, Ursula von Windeck would appear in a white robe to show them the way, standing still for a while and eventually disappearing in tears. It was only when a lost girl thanked her for her help that Ursula was redeemed from her curse and found peace. The girl had a shrine for Ursula erected at the site of her rescue.

    Sinfonisches Prludium - Anton Bruckner

The Symphonic Prelude in C minor is an orchestral composition from the circle of the Austrian composer Anton Bruckner. The unearthing of this work, discovered shortly after World War II, has created confusion, leading to a second, reduced version being attributed to Gustav Mahler, a theory which still holds sway in musical circles today, although there is a high probability that the original composition is indeed by Bruckner himself. Rudolf Krzyzanowski (1895-1911), a pupil of Bruckner, transcribed the score in 1876. The 43-page manuscript bears the inscription Rudolf Krzyzanowski cop. 1876 on the first page; while on the last page is written in blue pencil: By Anton Bruckner.Thomas Doss used a facsimile of this autograph copy as the basic of his instrumentation of the prelude for symphonic wind orchestra.

In Flanders Fields - Guillaume Détrez

"In Flanders Fields" is a play recounting the Battle of Vimy Ridge (France) which took place from April 9 to 12, 1917. The introduction refers to the thousands of graves found at the site of Notre-Dame de Lorette. Then begins the episode of preparation and fierce battle. Thanks to the Canadian Expeditionary Force that came as reinforcements, the battle was won and the site secured at 6 a.m. (brass choir accompanied by 6 bells). The title of this work also refers to a poem by John Mac Rae located at the entrance to the memorial museum."In Flanders Fields"By Col. John McCrae,In Flanders Fields The poppies blowBetween the crosses row on rowThat mark our place; and in the skyThe larks, still bravely singing, flyScarce heard amid the guns below. We are the dead, short days agoWe lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,Loved and were loved and now we lieIn Flanders Fields.Take up our quarrel with the foeTo you, from failing hands, we throwThe torch, be yours to hold it high.If ye break faith with us, who dieWe shall not sleep, though poppies growIn Flanders Fields
