A Sevenoaks Suite was commissioned by the Sevenoaks and Tonbridge Concert Band from Kent in the south-east of England. The suite describes 3 famous landmarks in the Sevenoaks and Tonbridge area: 'Knole Park', situated to the south-east of Sevenoaks. 'The Chapel - Tonbridge School': This movement centres around a hymn-like chorale, depicting the years of worship that have taken place within the chapel, and 'The Vine Bandstand' suggesting the type of music often played in bandstands. It is in march form, but is not actually a march throughout, veering off into other styles before ending emphatically.

Between 1905 and 1934, Gustav Holst was Director of Music at St Paul's Girls School in Brook Green, London. St Paul's Suite, written for the school's string orchestra, was premiered there in 1913 and consists of four movements: an energetic Jig in 6/8 and 9/8, Ostinato, based on a simple 4-note theme, Intermezzo, an energetic and rhythmic dance and Finale, adapted from the Second Suite in F in which Holst brilliantly combines The Dargason and The English Dancing Master, with the traditional melody, Greensleeves.

George Washington Suite - Mike Hannickel

In 1922 Halvorsen was commissioned to write incidental music for the bicentennial performance of a comedy written by Norwegian playwright Ludvig Holberg. Masquerade calls for a diverse pallet of music depicting ballet and dance scenes filled with silly play and gaiety. As a result, the music is graceful, as found in Cotillion, playful as in the Bacchanale, and burlesque for the Rooster and Grotesque dances. The original Masquerade Suite for orchestra consisted of eight dances; this arrangement for concert band comprises the first, third, fifth and sixth movements of Halvosens original suite. A delightful programing selection displaying humor, wit and elegance in the four brief movements.

DOLLY SUITEThe French composer and organist Gabriel Faur (Pamiers 1845 - Paris 1924) was professor of composition at the Paris Conservatory of Music and among his pupils were Maurice Ravel, Nadia Boulanger, Florent Schmitt and Charles Koechlin. It was only after many years that he was also recognized as a great composer outside France. He composed songs, piano music, chamber music, stage music, operas, orchestral pieces and a worldfamous Requiem. His 'Dolly Suite' opus 56 was composed between 1893 and 1896 for fourhanded piano. The six parts are 'Berceuse', 'Mi-a-ou', 'Le Jardin de Dolly' (Dolly's Garden), 'Kitty-valse', 'Tendresse' (Tenderness) and 'Le Pas Espagnol' (The Spanish step). The suite was already orchestrated in 1896 by the French composer Henri Rabaud, winner of the Grand Prix de Rome in 1894.
