Interestingly, this sequence of numbers corresponds to the postal code of the Austrian town of Steinerkirchen. Phenomenon" is a motivic and musical composition that captures the spirit, emotional intensity, and musicality of the remarkable phenomenon that is the music association of this town.Commissioned by the Musikverein Steinerkirchen" for the regional competition in 2022 at performance level E, this piece is dedicated to them. The music association is directed by Roland Kastner, with organizational leadership provided by Michael and Hubert Ecklbauer. Special thanks are due to these dedicated individuals, who play a significant role in promoting the remarkable phenomenon that is the Musikverein Steinerkirchen". The orchestra consists of a diverse mix of young and older amateurs, all of whom consistently achieve musical excellence through determination and ambition. The Year 1941 was composed during the second World War. Prokofiev, along with other composers, was evacuated to the Caucasus when Germany started attacking the Soviet Union in 1941. It was under such circumstances that Prokofiev began work on this symphonic suite. He was working on his epic opera War and Peace and the String Quartet No. 2 at the same time. It is an orchestral suite in three movements, a poignant and evocative musical depiction of a tumultuous period in history. The composer described these three movements as follows: I. In Battle - "a scene of heated battle, heard by the audience sometimes as though far away and sometimes as though on the actual battlefield."II. At Night - "a poetic night scene, disturbed by the tension of impending conflict. III. For the Brotherhood of Man - "a triumphant lyrical hymn to victory and the brotherhood of peoples."

Elegy & Scherzo was written at the request of cellist Yuki Ito, to commemorate the 150th birthyear in 2023 of Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873 - 1943). Composer Johan de Meij used some hints and quotes from Rachmaninoff's 2nd Symphony (opus 27) and the Symphonic Dances (opus 45), to embrace the sound world of the Russian master. Elegy & Scherzo was premiered on October 27, 2023, in the Cankarjev Dom in Ljubljana, Slovenia by the Band of the Slovenian Armed Forces, with Yuki Ito as the cello soloist and the composer conducting.
