Third Symphony, Op.89 (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Barnes, James
The Third Symphony stands today as one of Barnes' most personal and emotionally charged works. Commissioned by the US Air Force Band under Col. Alan Bonner, it was begun in earnest shortly after the tragic loss of the composer's baby daughter Nataile. The work progresses from the deepest darkness of despair all the way to the brightness of fullfillment and joy. Symphony No. 5 (Theme From The Second Movement) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Schubert, Franz - Johnson, Stuart
Schuberts delightful 5th Symphony in Bb major, written in 1816, is a miniature, perhaps avoiding comparison with Beethovens 5th, written just 10 years earlier. Schuberts Great was to come later. Johnson, Stuart has taken the theme from the 2nd movement, Andante con moto, and brought this gem within the reach of technically less advanced players without diminishing the musical quality.
