Tales Of The Vienna Woods (Waltz) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Brand, Geoffrey

Most of Johann Strauss' 'Master' Waltzes were written during the 1860's, including the "Blue Danube", "Morning Papers" and "Wine, Woman and Song", and this one is no exception. Like his father, Strauss toured virtually the whole of Europe with his orchestra, being acclaimed as Austria's King of the Waltz, and visiting the USA in 1876 to celebrate the centenary of Independence. This arrangement by Brand, Geoffrey simplifies the original version slightly but retains all the colour and flair of a sparkling bygone era.

Monastery Tales (Concert Band - Score and Parts)

Within the old monastery walls that today are home to the school that commissioned this work, a school orchestra is rehearsing: young people who stay together and make music; a teacher, who does what he can to bring the students, the music and the orchestra together. The concerts begin and the first successes soon follow. Then comes a tragic death that brings the project to its knees. The mood is forlorn. No one expects to continue with it. But 'now more than ever!' rings out. The message of this musical story is that when a teacher has ideals and commitment to his students, anything is possible. 11:48

Tales of a Medieval Warrior - Travis J. Weller

This short three-movement work chronicles the epic life of a medieval knight in dramatic fashion. The first movement, A Call for Knights, portrays the sounding trumpets calling forth the knights. The expressive second movement, Courting a Lady, is a delightful opportunity to showcase some chamber music within the full ensemble. Brash and bold fanfares open the third movement, Winning the Joust, as the knight rides to victory atop unrelenting statements for the winds and driving percussion parts. Epic!

    Two Holland Tales

Inspired by two folk songs from the arranger's Dutch heritage, is a piece that combines both lyrical and upbeat sections. "Daar waren twee koningskinderen" (There Were Two Royal Children) is the opening lyrical movement which displays the talents of both the wind and brass sections. The piece then moves into "Toen ik op Nederlands bergen stond" (I Once Stood on the Netherland's Hills). This is a fast movement in 6/8 and features the percussion section. A great arrangement for young band.

    Bleak Forest - Andreas Ziegelbäck

Bleak Forest is a piece for smaller concert bands and offers the musicians above all space to improve their sound and their effect playing. The technical requirements are therefore deliberately kept low. With this piece, the composer won the VLAMO International Composition Contest 2022.Thematically, the work is influenced by the composer's childhood memories. In his hometown there was a dark and mysterious forest, that seemed to the children in the small village to be magical. Without a reasonable explanation, every trip into the woods was exciting and somewhat terrifying. There were tales of dangerous animals, which can be heard at the beginning of the piece, as well as magical beasts. The magic of the forest is depicted musically from bar 70 in the andante section. The snapping of the fingers represents single raindrops. From bar 99 onwards, we hear the trek home, with the occasional moments of trepidation as the children spook each other with their fanciful tales. In the end, though, we arrive safely at home because after all, magical beasts only exist in fairy tales... don't they?Andreas Ziegelbck studied music education at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, and history at the Paris Lodron Universitt, Salzburg. In addition to his studies, he trained in ensemble conducting for wind orchestra with conductor and composer Thomas Doss. It was Doss who sparked Ziegelbck's interest in composing. In 2021, Andreas Ziegelbck completed his composition studies with Johannes Maria Staud. In 2020, he took part in a brass band composition masterclass in Bern with Oliver Waespi, followed by a premiere by the Swiss Army Brass Band.
