Composed specifically for the famed Goldman Band and premiered in 1933 in New York City, A Glorious Day is an invigorating work written in a modified overture format of fast-slow-fast. Mark Fonder's critical edition provides a rare opportunity to play a pre-WWII original band work, and is an important addition to the literature for contemporary wind bands. Ferrer Ferran accepted the commission to write the work and asked Mr. Buchmann jokingly to sing him a motif offive notes that would serve as the leitmotif of the composition.
