Apollo - Jan Van der Roost
Like previous marches by Jan Van der Roost (Mercury, Arsenal, Helios, Minerva, Artemis, Montana...) the overall character of Apollo is rather stately and noble. Broad themes and a lyrical trio melody offer the opportunity for variousregisters to shine and to display their qualities, making this concert march a captivating experience for players and audience alike! Starting in a minor key, the march soon turns towards the major, reflecting the festive character of a true'jubilee march'.

Diptyque - Jan Van der Roost
Diptyque is the French word for "diptych," meaning a hinged two-part image. The first section of this two-part musical painting has an Oriental feel, with characteristic pentatonic melody lines and chords. The second section is a cheerful Saltarello dance that brings out the subtleties of the woodwind section. A juxtaposition of Eastern and Western music, Diptyque reminds listeners of the power of music in transcending all cultural, religious and political boundaries.

Allein Gott in der Hh' sei Ehr
Jacob de Haan begins his arrangement of the well-known hymn Allein Gott in der Hh' sei Ehr (All Glory Be to God on High) with a quotation from his own Missa Katharina, a mass for choir, soprano, and band. To this melody he sets the Latin text from the last part of the Gloria. The chorale is then heard after an interlude and can, at the director's discretion, be accompanied by the choir singing in either German or English. A perfect work for church concerts.

Psaltrada - Jan de Haan
The title of this piece gives a clue as to how it came about: Jan de Haan took the setting of psalm 149 from the Geneva Psalter of 1562 and created from this simple, beautiful melody a glorious, lively opening work for concert band. So it was that from a psalm and an intrada (prelude) a Psaltrada was born - for you to begin your next concert in splendid fashion.
