The Lark in the Morning (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob

A vibrant folk dance set for full band. This is one of several folk tunes associated with this title. It's a jig in a minor key with suitable drumming which plays with and across (in hemiola style) the 6/8 rhythm. The setting is dramatic and intense while maintaining the feel of the jig. The outer sections are balanced by a quieter section which momentarily takes the heat out of the music before the dance takes over again and builds to a conclusion.Duration: 3.15

Visions (Alto Saxophone Solo with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Appermont, Bert

With this piece, the composer wanted to create a dream-like experience for the listener. In each of the four movements (Absence, Caprice, Nocturne and The Return) a different dream state is evoked using multiple rhythmic patterns and extended playing techniques. This is a dazzling addition to any saxophone repertoire.Duration: 15.30

Fantasy on Korean Folk Songs (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Vinson, Johnnie

Exploring some of the most well-known traditional folk tunes from Korea, here is an appealing and well-paced suite for young players. "Let's Sing and Dance" starts slowly then gradually speeds up similar to how it is usually sung. "The Gate" is a song and game played by Korean children, and this is followed by the beautiful ballad "Bellflowers." Finally "The Palace" completes the set in a bold and optimistic style. Wings to Fly (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Doss, Thomas

This piece was composed for the youth wind band at the Marienschule in Saarbrcken, Germany. The title praises the importance of an education emphasising freedom, responsibility and getting to know and accepting one's limitations in order to become a well-educated and good-hearted citizen. During the piece, the composer refers to aspects of a typical school-age experience, such as friendship, disappointments, challenges, values and goals. The point is that education gives us all Wings to fly. This is a noble piece, full of variety, with nice sections for all instrumental groups.Duration: 7.15

Sea Glass (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Kirby, Rick

Worn by the waves and recycled by the ocean, sea glass is a product of both nature and man. This lovely descriptive work uses shimmering effects in piano and percussion combined with beautiful melodies and lush harmonies. A Tom Sawyer Portrait (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Jarvis, Rebecca G.

Mark Twain's colorful characters come to musical life in "A Tom Sawyer Portrait!" The journey begins in St. Petersburg, Missouri, with a jaunty musical portrayal of Tom and Huck and a ragtime sequence which depicts the sleepy river town. An Americana-style ballad follows that is tender, lyrical and poignant. This segues into a "no holds barred" blues section representing the mighty Mississippi. The Portrait concludes with our heroes' return, featuring a recap of the opening theme augmented in the brass and accompanied by woodwind runs and exciting percussion. This is a great selection for the concert band that demands solid musicianship but will reward students for their efforts! Duration: 8.15

Windward Overture (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sheldon, Robert

This original concert overture is manageable by young musicians, yet it has elements that are relevant to much more challenging literature. Written in a standard overture form, the catchy melodies and rhythms will be sure to delight audiences while keeping the players fully engaged. A brief lyrical interlude adds variety and a moment of repose before returning to the more energised main theme. This is an outstanding choice for a spring concert or a first band festival/contest experience.Duration: 2:45
