    Excalibur - James Swearingen

This is an exceptional concert or festival piece for the end of the first year or for second year bands. It contains all of the unmistakable Swearingen magic and yet remains very playable. A great vehicle for teaching syncopation as well as musical style, all of the ranges are very moderate, and with the exception of a few notes in the first clarinet part, all of the clarinets remain below the break.

    Soaring Eagles - Daniel Jones

Soaring Eagles was composed for the inaugural fifth and sixth grade band at Woodside Middle School in the Saydel Community School District in Des Moines Iowa. For an ensemble that needs the stability of mostly unison rhythms and simple subdivisions, this is perfect. It serves as an exciting concert opener, designed for students who need to solidify basic rhythms before encountering the complexities of eighth notes and dotted rhythms. Among the musical highlights are soli sections, dotted-half notes, dynamics and larger interval leaps for a decidedly mature and accomplished effect.
