VIEW SCORE PDF This rousing and pulsating work by Kevin Norbury forms part of the suite A Renaissance Christmas, also published by BrookWright Music. It is based on three popular carols - In Dulci Jubilo, Good Christian men, rejoice! and Ding-dong merrily on high. This magnificent 13th-century melody was also a part of Michael Praetorius's collection. It is traditionally associated with the words 'Good Christian men, rejoice!' The opening is a straight transcription of the great chorale prelude for organ by J.S.Bach. After the grandeur of the opening, the tune is heard in more of a 'folky' style. A lot of related melodic material is then presented before the tune Ding-dong merrily on high is heard. After another episode of previously used music In Dulci Jubilo reappears in a joyful conclusion to the piece. This may be one of the best Fillmore marches we have heard that is for the most part still unknown. Written to stir patriotism during World War I, all of the wonderful Fillmore trademarks are present in this exceptional march. It is tuneful, exciting and well-scored; presented in a full score edition for the first time, exactly as Fillmore intended it to be.

£139.00Psyche et Eros (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Franck, Cesar - Cesarini, Franco
Cesar Franck, composer, pianist, organist and music teacher, completed Cupid and Psyche, his sixth and last symphonic poem in 1887. It was first performed in Paris in 1888 and was a complete success, but the piece later fell completely into oblivion, and it was only thanks to some meticulous research that it has returned to concert halls. The intricate love affair between Psyche and Cupid is an original story of the Metamorphoses, written in the 2nd century AD by Apuleius. The tale is about overcoming obstacles in love and their final union. The symphonic poem is divided into three parts and calls for a choir. The movement that is the subject of this arrangement, Psyche et Eros, is positioned at the end of the second part. Franco Cesarini's version for wind orchestra carefully illustrates the nuances of the instrumental colours, and represents a real test aimed at demonstrating the musicality and interpretative skills of orchestras and their conductors. Conclusions is inspired by three of the worlds greatest astronomers; their lifes, work and pioneering conclusions. 1: Copernicus. Nicolaus Copernicus lived in the 15th century. He introduced the idea that the planets rotate around the Sun rather than the Earth. This was a new and controversial world view which was not accepted in his lifetime. 2: Galileo. Galileo Galilei lived about a hundred years later and is sometimes called "the father of modern science". He is credited with the discovery of Jupiter's four largest moons. His discoveries supported Copernicus' model of the Solar System, and also showed that objects rotate around other planets than the Earth. Galilei was charged with heresy, and had to recant his claim that the Earth revolved around the Sun. "And yet it does move", he is supposed to have said. 3: Newton. Isaac Newton is known for his theory about the law of gravity and how it affects motion. This theory enabled him to accurately calculate the paths of the planets in the Solar System, and was a third conclusion in the astronomical tradition. In the same way that the three astronomers' independent conclusions build on ideas that are common to all three, Conclusions is built up of three independent movements which all include references to each other (melodic, harmonic, inversions etc.) Duration: 11.00

A concert overture with interest and colour for the whole band, Hope Springs Eternal was written during the seemingly interminable lockdowns of 2020. The intention was to compose some positive music as an encouragement during difficult times. It starts with a strident statement before turning fairly shortly to a more reflective response from the woodwind. The opening returns and this time the response is broader before it builds to a peak and unleashes the faster music that follows. Several melodic fragments are introduced before a minor key theme is established. The music becomes lighter as it progresses until it reaches the cheerful and melodic trio section. The minor section makes a brief return before being forever banished by the final statement of the affirmative opening music.Duration: 6.45

A cheerful piece full of rhythmic vitality; I wrote this shortly after completing Acentos Oscuras and it is the reverse of the style of that piece. It is fairly simple in form with just three small melodies that are each developed in form plus a central undeveloped, but quite lush, melody that is just repeated three times for the sheer joy of it. The mood of the music is very light and upbeat and is meant to capture that lovely feeling of a sunny, summer afternoon with no work and no worries!Duration: 4.58

The Suite from Henry V is an arrangement for Concert Band and optional narrator, adapted from the 1963 orchestral arrangement of William Walton's musical score from the 1944 film Henry V. The suite, originally arranged for orchestra by Muir Mathieson, is in five movements, and occupies a very significant role in the history of music and of Shakespearean studies. Performances exist in a variety of formats because the adaptation of the narration to a film suite is subject to choice. To be chronologically correct, the order of movements from the original suite has been altered to adhere to the narration of the play. And the choice of speeches has required considerable research by classicists who are familiar with the writings of Shakespeare. It has been the endeavour of this arranger to research and present this suite in as authentic a manner as possible, understanding that it might well become the standard by which Concert Bands of the future will adapt and present this music. The arranger is indebted to Anna Warren, a resident of Twickenham and a graduate in Modern Languages (French and Italian) and History from the University of Bristol and a postgraduate from The Institute of Education, the University of London, for her knowledge and insight into the formation of the narration.

This lively, attractive march originates from one of the best-known operettas by Franz Lehar, Die lustige Witwe (The Merry Widow), a work that brought the composer enormous success. The operetta features many lovely arias, and catchy dances, but also subtle passages and wonderful singable tunes. One of those is Ja, das Studium der Weiber ist schwer (The study of women is difficult), a tune incorporated in the trio of this march. Lehar obviously had high expectations for it, giving it a prominent place within the operetta. He also used it as an effective finale piece.Duration: 3:15

The arrangement is compatible with the published SATB choral version available seperately. The scoring is done with some cue size notations that should be played if performing without the chorus. This will make a delightful addition to any Christmas or seasonal concert.
