Ouverture Allemande (Concert Band - Score and Parts)
This festive overture by the Austrian composer Thomas Doss, whose father was German, is intended to be a symbol of the friendship between Germany and Austria, and the countries that border on these two states. In times of union and cooperation, the European thinking should be one of tolerance and openness when it comes to national identities and cultures. European culture has many faces - that is what makes it unique. The shadows of the past, however, should never be forgotten, but they must not obscure the present and the future. Many ghosts wander through this overture, and those who listen carefully will also hear a great master of classical music ghost around. A creative new opening work for any concert. 09:00

PALLADIO (Young Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Jenkins, Karl - Longfield, Robert
Although this composition sounds like it came straight out of the Baroque period, it is actually the first movement of a suite written in 1996 by Karl Jenkins. Instantly recognized as the "diamond commercial" theme, its relentless pulse and dramatic nature make it a natural for bands. Robert Longfield's skilled arrangement puts it within reach of most groups. (2:45)

SPECTRUM (Prestige Concert Band Extra Score) - Vinter, Gilbert - Newton, Rodney
Extra Score. SPECTRUM. This work caused much consternation when it was used as the brass band test piece at the 1969 British Open Competition. The score is an uncompromising one and as colourful as its title suggests. The various episodes of the work are each named after a colour from the spectrum - Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Purple (changed from Violet when Vinter became conscious of his failing health). It is a piece of violent mood swings challenging all sections of the band. Many consider this to be the finest of Vinter's small output for band. Duration: 12:40 Recorded on Polyphonic QPRM151D Time Lines (Great British Music for Wind Band Vol.12)

Spotlights (Concert Band - Score and Parts)
Spotlights is a fantastic virtuoso piece for saxophone quartet (SATB) and concert band that was commissioned by the outstanding Austrian saxophone quartet Mobilis. It is an impressive and exceptionally spectacular piece in which every member of the saxophone family is featured. The most important ingredients of this solo work are virtuosity, rhythm and a good dollop of funk. It is a challenging, but rewarding piece for your saxophone soloists and yet very accessible to the audience. 11:00

The Legend of Flathead Lake Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
In Scotland, the monster of Loch Ness is a hot issue, but the American state of Montana enjoys a comparable phenomenon going by the name of Montana Nessie. In the western part of this remote state lies Flathead Lake: a lake of 45 kilometres /38 miles in lenght and 24 kilometres /15 miles breath. At several places, its depth exeeds 100 metres.Nessies discovery takes us back to the year 1889, when captain James Kerr aboard the passengership U.S.Grant was startled by a ship unknown to him suddenly approaching his vessel across Flathead Lake. However, it turned out not to be a ship but an undefinable animal of immense size. From that moment onwards, life would never be the same again in and around Flathead Lake. The composer was inspired by the story, and summarized the events into a symphonic poem, but from a surprising angle:that of the monster. The exiting opening allows us to follow the monster in its natural surroundings. The fast follow-up movement depicts Montana Nessie trotting and frolicking about the Montana woods and prairies. From its abode, it thorougly enjoys everything around it. This period abruptly ends in a short climax (Chimes). The solo for cor anglais marks a new period in the monsters life. The presence of people has a paralizing effect and the apprehensive atmosphere of the slow movement may be felt profoundly. The monster observes and mildly teases the ship. Abhor sounds force the ship to a withdrawal. The moving musical continuation depicts the triumphant monster dancing an ironic waltz. The monsters fear and anger at the intrusion of his freedom run through the piece like continuous threads, and develop into the works final theme. 12:00

The Saint and the City Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
This tumultuous composition tells the legend of the town of Zwolle in the Netherlands. In the waters surrounding Zwolle lived a dragon. When it appeared it threatened to destroy the town with it fiery breath if a human sacrifice was not offered. St Michael confronted the dragon in a battle without equal. As a knight armed with a double edged sword the archangel battled against the dragon and decapitated it. Thus the city was saved. To represent the archangel the composer has chosen the hymn tune Laudate Dominum . The dragon is symbolised by a series of menacing chords. 0:08:00

The Sword of Kings (Concert Band - Score and Parts)
Listen carefully to this regal sounding composition by Robert W. Smith. You may find it difficult to believe that it contains only the first six notes introduced in most major band methods. "The Sword of Kings" is inspired by the legend of Excalibur. It was composed as a concert or festival work for the beginning band. Whether at the end of the first semester or the first year of study, your band will sound surprisingly sophisticated while appealing to both performer and audience alike. Active percussion combined with engaging wind parts make this an excellent choice.

When the Wind Whispers (Concert Band - Score and Parts)
Look no further for an outstanding lyrical selection for young band! "When the Wind Whispers" has musicality, sophistication and maturity uncommon at this grade level. Beginning softly, it invokes the feeling of a cool spring breeze. The memorable melody is presented in a variety of textures and colors building and subsiding like the whispering wind. As it develops, it builds to a wonderful emotional climax. The intensity then subsides, ending as it began, with the softest touch of morning breeze. Outstanding for concert and festival use.

ZOO BALL (Part 1 in B flat) - Strachan, Keith
1st Clarinet, 1st Trumpet/CornetThe Zoo Ball is a suite of twelve light-hearted pieces for the young wind of brass band by Keith Strachan. It can be seen from the titles that the young player is introduced to a variety of dance rhythms that are both fun to play and enjoyable to listen to.It is scored in five parts (some of which divide in places) so can be played by ensembles of aroung ten players up to full band. When a fuller instrumentation is available, teachers and conductors are encouraged to vary the scoring as appropriate, particularly in repeated sections. This will allow players to rest occasionally and add changes of colour to the band sound by avoiding excessive doubling.Contents:Lion's PrideHippo's WaltzKangaroo HopEel CongaElephants' MarchSnake, Rattle and RollPanther TangoPenguin PolkaBuffalo BluesBlack Mamba SambaTiger RagMonkey Swing
