King Karl King - Henry Fillmore

Originally written for a film (The Big Brass Band) that was never made, this terrific but little-known march turned out to be the last march that Fillmore would write. Unusually rich in harmony, it was not published in Fillmore's lifetime. He had asked that it be named after his friend and fellow march composer, Karl L. King, if the movie was not produced.

Game of Thrones Main Title Theme - Ramin Djawadi

Ramin Djawadi composed the music for "Game of Thrones" and its prequel "House of Dragons" in 2011 when he was approached by the series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. The main theme is an iconic piece that captures the essence of the series' epic and complex nature. The melody is simple yet powerful, with a highly recognizable line. Like much other TV series and film music, it uses a repetitive structure that creates a sense of inevitability and fate. The harmonics are complex, shifting between major and minor, contributing to the feeling of uncertainty and mystique. This arrangement's use of instruments such as taiko drums enhances the rhythmic drive of the music. The main theme has a timeless quality that makes it feel both timeless and relevant, fitting well with the series' medieval setting.

    Country Gardens - Percy Grainger

One of Grainger's most popular piano encores was improvisations on English Morris Dance tunes that he programmed as COUNTRY GARDENS.Adolf Schmid's 1925 orchestration displays many features that bear witness to his deep knowledge of Percy Grainger's orchestral palette, making it ideal for symphonic wind band adaptation. Grainger's mature concept of the wind band is seen in CHILDREN'S MARCH, LINCOLNSHIRE POSY, and LADS OF WAMPHRAY. With this knowledge in hand, Mark Rogers has created a wind-band scoring (appearing for the first time with full score) that should delight conductors looking for a concise introduction into the world of Percy Grainger.

    Bahumba - Peter Sciaino

"Bahumba" is a nonsense word but a no-nonsense selection for concert band. The word stems from a sound composer Peter Sciaino heard coming from an idling car. The engine, clearly having issues, had an "uneven" gate or pulse. He mindlessly heard the word "Bahumba" within the sounds emerging from the struggling motor. Just like an engine, an ensemble can attain a smooth groove even if "uneven" in terms of pulse. While the percussionists are often asked to provide this groove under the melodic lines, they ultimately break out with a feature that essentially places a percussion ensemble within the context of a concert band piece. (2:43).

    Christmas Overture - Samuel Coleridge-Taylor

Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's Christmas Overture appeared posthumously in 1925. Originally orchestrated by Sydney Baynes, it features God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and Hark the Herald Angels Sing. It is thought by some to have been put together from incidental music he wrote for a children's play called The Forest of Wild Thyme. This band arrangement, based on Baynes' orchestra score, omits the largely developmental middle section of the original, shortening the performance time by two minutes, while retaining all of the traditional carol material.

Barnum and Bailey's Fractured Favorite - Karl L. King

When Karl King was conducting circus bands, he would frequently edit his marches so the same composition could be used for contrasting acts (for example a lion act one time, and a trapeze act the next). In the same spirit, Thomas Leslie has creatively repurposed this familiar march to suit an imaginary clown act; complete with novelty percussion sounds and a few surprises sprinkled in. A bit outrageous, but definitely fun! Dur: c. 2:20
