Bad (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Jackson, Michael - Fukushima, Hirokazu

Five years after the release of the monster album Thriller, which sold a record-breaking 105 million copies worldwide up to this date, this second single from the album Bad, released in 1987, also peaked at number one on the Billboard chart. This song was performed during Michael's first solo world tour that started from Japan (Korakuen Stadium) in September 1987. The short film directed by Martin Scorsese also generated great publicity. In particular, the animated group dance scene in the subway made a huge impact on the viewers and distinguished Michael's image. As the video depicts, "bad" in this song's lyrics indicate the kicking, cool unruly living on the streets. As the opening number, Bad strikes out a course of slight-but-right edginess with its dynamically groovy arrangement that underscores the electric funk in the original tune. Don't miss the last punch line: Who's bad?Duration: 4:00

Magnolia (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Appermont, Bert

Just as the magnificent blooms of the magnolia appear in springtime, so this simple choral melody opens slowly and gracefully, eventually blossoming to a glorious climax. The delightful opening theme is taken up again, and eventually everything comes to rest, like a bud that closes at the day's end. Duration: 5.45

UFO (Euphonium Solo or Section Feature with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Kennedy, Edward

The title of this work conjures up images in one's mind of outer space and flying saucers. However, although intended to be a programmatic work, the title is also a pun on the affectionate name often given to the Euphonium in the U.K. and Australia, Eupho. This exciting work will give your euphonium or baritone players a chance to shine and have some fun, either as soloists or in a section feature.Duration: 2:45

Towards the Future (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Hirose, Hayato

Towards the Future was commissioned by the Nagoya City Fire Bureau for the 50th anniversary of the Nagoya City Fire Bureau Band (Nagoya, Japan). It was premiered by the band on 7 February 2009, conducted by Masuo Nakamura. This concert march was conceived to lift up the spirits of the firemen who save people's lives. The solemn and heart-warming melodies express their braveness when faced with danger and the tenderness shown towards the people they protect. It is an ideal march to open a concert and to inspire both performers and audience.Duration: 3:00

Joy to the World (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Mason, Lowell - Noble & Rutter

The music was adapted and arranged by Lowell Mason in 1839 from an older melody which was then believed to have originated from Handel, not least because the theme of the refrain (And heaven and nature sing...) appears in the orchestra opening and accompaniment of the recitative Comfort Ye from Handel's Messiah, and the first four notes match the beginning of the choruses Lift up your heads and Glory to God from the same oratorio. However, Handel did not compose the entire tune. As of the late 20th century, Joy to the World was the most-published Christmas hymn in North America.

Blue and Green Music (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Hazo, Samuel R.

The stunning artwork of Georgia O'Keeffe is no more apparent than in her famous 1921 painting entitled Blue and Green Music. Fittingly commissioned by the Patrick Marsh Middle School in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin (O'Keeffe's birthplace), Samuel Hazo does an amazing job of portraying subtle as well as bold colours into musical terms. Based on a single theme that is manipulated and varied throughout, the piece progresses from delicate mallet percussion effects up to climactic impact points for the entire ensemble. O'Keeffe explained her idea that music could be translated into something for the eye, and Mr. Hazo succeeds wonderfully in translating it back into something for the ear!Duration: 4:45
