Hectala is the historical place name of the Belgian-Limburgish village of Hechtel where, during the Second World War, the Welsh Guards were engaged in a five-day battle with the German troops. More than 200 soldiers and 35 inhabitants perished. This classical, steady march in 6/8 time was written as a memorial to these events. It sends a powerful message that in war, there are no winners.

A Sousa Celebration is the arranger's collection of excerpts from several of Sousa's interesting marches, creating a patriotic presentation of greater length than the typical march. This selection includes a variety of content, offering a showpiece to several sections of the band: Hail to the Spirit of Liberty, composed for the Paris Exposition of 1900, for the unveiling of the Lafayette Monument on July 4; Yorktown Centennial (1881), written to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the last important battle of the Revolutionary War: the surrender at Yorktown; Mother Hubbard March (1885), based on nursery rhymes; "Three Blind Mice," "Thus the Farmer Sows His Seed," "Old Mother Hubbard," "Hey Diddle Diddle," "Little Redbird in the Tree," "London Bridge is Falling Down," "Scotland the Brave," and "The Minstrel Boy." The celebration concludes with excerpts from Sousa's most celebrated march, The Stars and Stripes Forever.

Sweden On Guard is part of Widkvist's earliest march production. It was composed around 1914 when he served in the engineering troops.It is worth noting that the march from the beginning was probably intended for a small sized brass band and was later rearranged for a full military band by the composer. When I searched in the Swedish War Archives many years ago, looking for more or less forgotten marches, this work, among others, appeared. Battles was written for the restoration of the epic 1927 silent film The Battles of Coronel and Falkland Islands, and was commissioned by the British Film Institute (BFI) in 2013. The work presents eight contrasting scenes as a continuous sequence: War, Introduction of Admiral von Spee, German Banquet, Building Steam/Preparing, Islanders, Call to Arms, Great Battle at Sea and Victory. The original score was written for a small chamber orchestra, symphonic brass and a substantial batterie of tuned and untuned percussion. Battles has been edited for symphonic wind orchestra with percussion and harp.Composer Simon Dobson says of hiscolourful score, "I wanted to keep things simple and clear, so there is a British theme, a fanfare march idea, often heard on trumpet, and a German naval theme, which is a more angular motif."
