The principal lyrical theme from Dvork' s second movement is equal in fame and popularity to Pachelbel's Canon and Albinoni's Adagio. This incredibly simple and beautiful theme has been arranged here for a soloist (Flute, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Trumpet or Baritone) and band. This is a great piece to showcase the talents of a member in the ensemble.

As classic as Santa and Rudolph, George Michael's iconic Wham! hit has been covered by Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande, and now it's your band's turn. A snap to rehearse and program, this Chris M. Bernotas arrangement is suitable for both developing bands and more advanced ensembles to usher in the holiday season. If you have a combined music department concert, this would be an excellent closer to bring the choir (and even strings singing) in at the repeat of measure 49 for the last musical statement of the chorus. You could even print the lyrics in your holiday program and invite the audience to sing along. (2:30)

Latin American Symphonette (Symphonette No. 4) - Morton Gould

Morton Gould, equally comfortable in the worlds of both "serious" and "light" music, presented his symphonettes (an Americanization of the term "sinfonietta," much like kitchenette and dinette) as works of a truly American vernacular, drawing on popular culture as well as classical forms. His Fourth Symphonette is a departure from the musical language of the previous symphonettes, as it is bursting with latino rhythms, each distinct style in its own movement: I. Rhumba, II. Tango, III. Guaracha, and IV. Conga. Completed in 1940, the work was premiered by the NYA Symphony in New York, under the direction of Fritz Mahler. The saxophones, guitar and piano, although desirable, are optional and fully cued in the other parts. Generally, all parts are well cross-cued so that the work can be performed with a smaller orchestra. Latinesque - Bruce Preuninger
