A Canadian Christmas

Get ready for an abundance of merriment! This work features carols that have been traditionally sung in Canada for many years and will help to create a spirit of mirth in no time. It opens with the joyous strains of "Il Est N Le Divin Enfant (He is Born, The Divine Child)" and continues with the plaintive and modal "Nol Nouvelet (Sing We Now of Christmas)." "The Huron Carol ('Twas In the Moon of Wintertime)" is then presented with remnants of "Nol Nouvelet" cleverly woven in. The dramatic conclusion develops brief dialogue between "Good King Wenceslas" and "Il Est N Le Divin Enfant" that brings the work to an exuberant and powerful close. Juxtaposing the lyrical and expressive with the joyous and cheerful in this masterful arrangement will add a little touch of Canada to your next holiday concert.

A Canadian Folk Rhapsody - Donald Coakley

Woven within A Canadian Folk Rhapsody are four folk melodies chosen for their potential to interact successfully within the bounds of a single composition. They are part of the cultural heritage of the two principal ethnic groups which populate Canada - French and English. A Castle in the Woods - Randy Navarre

In the days of castles and kings, one would find a castle tucked away in the woods, maybe not even known to anyone outside the area. In the Middle Ages, communication and travel were limited. Many people never traveled more than a few miles from home. , by Randy Navarre, is an ideal composition for students to perform on their first concert. It is easy and sounds great. The notes are in the first few pitches of the diatonic scale, and the chords of that scale are played with no accidentals. Your young musicians will be proud to perform this! (2:20)

A Catalonian Christmas Carol

This traditional folk song from Catalonia (a region in Spain) has been regularly sung during the Christmas season all over the world. There are also numerous instrumental versions, including notable ones for solo guitar that are very popular. This arrangement begins like the guitar versions---simple, light, and clean.
