Bugles and Drums March - Edwin Franko Goldman

Edwin Franko Goldman has provided us with some of the most timeless marches in history. Bugles and Drums, part of our Goldman series, is expertly edited by prominent bandmaster Edward Lisk and is considered one of his best works. The music is authentically presented in a performance edition with extensive program notes concerning interpretation and history.

Bulgarian Rhapsody - Gabriel Musella

Bull City Fanfare

This exciting opener or closer, easily accessible to most high school or community bands, is named for the "Bull City," Durham, North Carolina. An excellent showcase for each section of the band, the work features moving low brass lines, woodwind counterpoints, and an aggressive horn section. The percussion section is an integral part of composition with extensive use of toms, hand drums, tambourine, and cymbals. A strong option for contest, concert, or community band programming.

Burst

A tour de force concert opener (or a striking closer) that rips right out of the gate with a four-note motive functioning as the genesis for the rest of the piece. It comes complete with bursts of brass fanfares, woodwind flourishes, percussion interjections, and biting harmonies that build tension only resolved at the final chord. This piece packs an incredible amount of music in a short period of time. Before you know it - wham! It's over. One of O'Loughlin's finest works to date!

By Lantern's Light

This medley of traditional folk songs songs uses Clair Fairchild's "Twelve Persian Folk Songs" as its basis. Fairchild took care to preserve their original authenticity by limiting all western harmony and as a result, performers will be required to replicate the songlike phrasing of the lines, rhythmic integrity and the style of the accompaniment. Essential to performance of this composition is helping performers understand that many inflections exist beyond what is written on the page. Musical challenges abound in this well-crafted folk song based composition.

Cadets' Cavalcade

Cadet's Cavalcade calls to mind a parade with horses. The piece's steady pace and stately tempo set the scene for horses trotting down the path. This accessible march is great for getting young players accustomed to the march form and style. Your students will be clamoring to play this piece time and time again.

Thanks to Bill Calhoun's careful attention to scoring, every section of the bandhas a chance to shine and handle the melodic material. Beginning level groups can work on a lighter style with this unique dance piece.

Call of the Ancient Clans - Amy Webb

This piece takes players back to ancient times, when neighboring tribes would communicate by way of rhythm instruments. With an interesting, pulsating rhythm and catchy woodwind lines, the engaging music gives students the opportunity to create fun musical moments. Notes generally fall within the first year range, but also provide a good challenge with first clarinets going over the break a few times. Dynamic contrasts, interesting percussion parts, and many exciting moments offer an exciting concert finale.
