Ancient Desert Drone - Henry Cowell

Ancient Desert Drone was composed for Orchestra in 1940 at the request of Percy Grainger, who encouraged the idea of using a single pitch drone throughout the work (similar to Grainger's own The ImmovableDo) and to whom the piece is dedicated. While the work suggests an Eastern charm with its distinctive mode and primitive rhythms, Cowell himself stated there was no particular programmatic intent. Ancient Dialogue - Patrick J. Burns

This delightful presentation is based on "Baises Moy" ("Kiss Me,") a French folk tune dating back to the fifteenth centruy. The theme moves through the band as dialogues (antiphonies) between contrsting wind groups. There's a joyful sound of Renasissance pagentry, as layers of various colors play against each other accompanied by lively percussion. A wonderful change of pace within your next performance.

Ancient Echoes - Ed Huckeby

A great concert or contest selection for younger ensembles, "Ancient Echoes" combines the well-known melodic elements of "Simple Gifts" and the Korean folk song "Ahrirang," in a well-crafted medley which will delight both performer and listener.
