This unusual concert work, commissioned by the concert band ?Harmonie Concorde? from Sanem in Luxembourg, is built on two basic ideas: the evolution of the economic and social context of this Luxembourg city with its strong mining industry and the European concept, which is clearly present in this very small but prosperous country with its many European institutes. This is musically expressed in a few quotes from the European hymn Ode to Joy, the closing of Beethoven?s Ninth Symphony and from the Te Deum by Charpentier ? widely known as the signature tune for Eurovision broadcasts. A work of true unity.

Condacum' was composed on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Arts Council in the Belgian district of Kontich, the home town of the composer Jan Van der Roost. It is an interesting composition in which the history of this Belgian community is depicted in sound. The opening reminds one of the advance of the Roman army, whilst the dynamic development is full of vitaliy!

Conductor's March - Thomas Doss

Conductor's March is a deft and witty concert march. A conductor should always strive to motivate his musicians and to stay one step ahead of his orchestra--this is the motto and idea behind this piece. First it takes the form of a drum solo which represents the constantly driving force of the conductor. Gradually the musicians fall into line and eventually a cheerful music-making ensemble emerges.
