Blue skies, white walls and the bright sun all attracted her. Each alley she explored reflected Arabian, Islamic or Jewish tradition and had its own unique feel, which remained in the traveller's heart for many years. Antonio Capuzzi (August 1, 1755 - March 28, 1818) was an Italian violinist and composer who studied violin with Nazari and composition with Bertoni. In 1805 he moved to Bergamo, where he was professor of violin at the Instituto Musicale and leader of the orchestra at Teatro Riccardi. He was highly regarded there both as a teacher and a performer. Although popular in his day, most of his music is now forgotten; his most commonly performed piece today is the Concerto for Double Bass. All of Capuzzi's known compositions were written during his Venetian years. It was in Venice that Capuzzi became close friends with Domenico Dragonetti, Beethoven's virtuoso bassist. It is speculated that Capuzzi wrote his Concerto for Double Bass for Dragonetti. Gerald Oswald has made a fine arrangement of the second (Andante) and third (Rondo) movements of the concerto to feature either euphonium or tuba with concert band. The solo part is also available in an edition with piano accompaniment. 09:05

Andante (from Prince Igor) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Borodin, Alexander - Bullock, Jack

Alexander Borodin (1833-1887) was a well-known Russian composer, particularly for his opera, Prince Igor. Borodin was in the middle of composing the piece when he suddenly died. Rimsky-Korsakov and another Russian composer, Alexander Glazanov, completed the unfinished score and the opera had its debut in November of 1890, three and a half years after his death. During the overture prelude, a beautiful flowing melody from Act III, entitled Andante, is an emotional addition to the young band literature. Most musical!Duration: 3.00

Dvorak's Symphony No.4 (1874) was a pivotal work in the career of this famous Bohemian composer. In the work Dvorak is finally freed from the influence of other composers and succeeds in producing a work in his own unique style. The slow introduction of the second movement (Andante sostenuto e molto cantabile) however clearly showed the influence of Wagner's Tannhauser, but the l'Alla Marcia du Scherzo is again typical Dvorak. You can also hear the obvious references to the traditional music of Bohemia which played an important part in late works of Dvorvak. A terrific classical work for your concert repertoire.
