Concertino for Clarinet and Wind Orchestra was commissioned by the Swiss Wind Band Association (SBV) to celebrate the "Year of the Clarinet 2015". In three sections, separated by cadenzas for the soloist, the work explores all aspects and characteristics of the clarinet. It includes virtuoso elements and dialogues between the other winds, as well as a beautiful slow movement, which makes this piece a musically challenging yet accessible piece for any audience. Johnson, Stuart has arranged and adapted the first movement of this much loved Mozart piano sonata (KV 282) to create a delightful and welcome addition to the clarinet repertoire. The accompaniment is lightly scored for small wind band. Primarily this is to create a classical feel which reflects the style of the music. However, larger bands may wish to place the piece strategically in the program to give the heavy brass a rest. To this end, directors may also prefer to use single players on the brass and saxophone parts which would also help to give and orchestral feel to the performance.

Written for famed Japanese marimba soloist, Reiko Kono. This concerto-like work is accompanied by the full resources of the modern concert band. The movements are a romantic "Nocturne", a gay, lilting "Scherzetto", and a brilliant "Toccata" which is surprisingly set to a swing-boogie rhythmic background.
