EUPHONIUM MUSIC (Euphonium/Concert Band) - Bowen, Brian

Something of a classic in its brass band and piano versions. Written in 1978, the work is constructed in three movements and is virtually a concerto for euphonium and band. The first movement begins with an unaccompanied motto theme, which uses all twelve notes of the scale but with a tonal feel. The slow second movement is based on an original song melody by the compsoer - The Eyes of God - and affords lyrical and richly expressive playing that is typically euphonium. movement three follows without a break - a capricious movement which ends triumphantly. Euphoria (Concert Band - Score and Parts)

Euphoria is a bracing composition which concentrates its energy on the baritones/euphoniums. The solo parts require at least two soloists. This piece opens with a syncopated introduction followed by a statement of the simple melodic theme interpreted by the baritones/euphoniums. The style of performance is particularly affected by the alternation of staccato and legato passages. The finale of this work develops through a progression of accelerandos and crescendos leading to an amazing conclusion. 03:00

Eureka!

The California Gold Rush began on January 24, 1848, when gold was discovered by James W. Marshall at Sutter's Mill, in Coloma, California. Using unique scoring techniques and multiple tambourines as "pans," "Eureka" is David Shaffer's musical depiction of the first miners attempts at panning gold from the American River and their perilous trip by horseback to San Francisco to stake their claim. Breathtaking musical excitement, simple but clever staging of the "panners" combined with the historical importance of that era will make this composition a must for your concert repertoire. The deciding factor in the Euro's success will be the level of co-operation between the countries involved. Each country will have to work together to make the Euro thrive.
