Appomattox - James L. Hosay
General Lee and General Grant are represented by their own themes in this expressive tone poem for band. The story of the Appomattox Courthouse meeting between the two military greats is one of extraordinary human drama, and Curnow effectively illustrates the heartbreaking trial and, finally, dignity experience by all involved. Composer Larry Clark used this opportunity to write a piece in a rondo form, but with some modern twists. The main theme is very catchy, and is used in various harmonic treatments and style.
