Nostradamus (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Schwarz, Otto M.
Nostradamus was one of humankind's greatest prophets. Many of his coded prophecies proved true. He lived at the time of the inquisition, and his predictions and medical therapies as a physician made him face consequences from the church. After he had been forced to flee several times and had lost his family to the plague, he devoted himself to clairvoyance. He wrote down many events in history in coded predictions. Although there is probably more than one possible way of interpretation, in our world, Nostradamus is still considered to be a unique personality. Whether he is degraded to a charlatan or turned into a myth, he surely has moved humankind with his prophecies. Otto M. Schwarz, soundtrack composer since 2001, wrote a cinematographic work about this man, who is probably the best-known prophet of the last 1000 years.

Spider Legs (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob
Spider Legs is a vibrant Latin dance number. Although I have used Latin rhythms in pieces in recent years this is the first time I have returned wholeheartedly to one of my favourite types of music since I wrote Tiptoe Tune in 2001. Typically I wrote it when I should have been writing something else but I really enjoyed going back to these rhythms. Stylistically Spider Legs can best be described I suppose as 'Merengue House' but perhaps it is better without any description! It was composed in 2014, shortly after the birth of my granddaughter Emma Louisa who was nicknamed 'Spider Legs' at the time and the name seemed to fit the music so well that I could not resist it.

September (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Mogensen, Michael A.
This extraordinary work was written in lasting memory of those lost during the September 11, 2001 tragedies. September offers a musical journey through the varied emotions and feelings experienced during that heart-breaking time in history. In distinctive writing style, the composer touchingly reminds us to never forget. The work is nearly through-composed, providing continuous interest and contrasting segments; and included within the chamber sections are solos for euphonium, oboe, and clarinet. Well-crafted and very poignant, this exceptional composition is destined to become part of every wind ensemble's repertoire. Certain to move audiences everywhere, September is afforded our highest recommendation.Duration: 8.00

Overture on French Carols (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Lane, Philip - Noble, Paul
The idea for this work sprang from a visit to Bayeux in the weeks before Christmas in 2001 when carols were being played through loudspeakers in the streets to accompany seasonal shoppers. The overture was premiered by the BBC Concert Orchestra in 2003 and subsequently broadcast on BBC Radio 3. The work has been commercially recorded by the Royal Ballet Sinfonia conducted by Gavin Sutherland. The carols employed in this overture are: Il est n, le divin enfant, Patapan, Nol nouvelet, Quelle est cette odeur agreeable, and Masters in this hall. Some are brought together in the final section with Quittez, pasteurs as additional counterpoint in the horns. This piece will be an important addition to seasonal repertoire, and certainly in a setting that will be fresh and inspiring for audiences.
