Black Gold was commissioned by Musikverein 1891 "Harmonie" Saarwellingen e.V. (Germany) to mark its 130th anniversary. This composition pictures the history of the mining industry in the town of Saarwellingen and its surrounding region, where the life of the miners as well as their families revolved around coal, or black gold, for centuries on end. The piece is based on motifs from the famous song "Glck auf, Glck auf, der Steiger kommt..." ("Good luck, good luck, the mining foreman comes"), a veritable anthem for miners the world over.

Santa's Toy Shop paints a vivid picture of a very busy holiday scene as Santa's elves are hard at work making gifts to have ready for delivery. All the hustle and bustle you'd expect are vividly showcased by the percussion section. This fun adaption of "Jolly Old St. Nicholas" is given a special twist by using numerous sound effects (anvil, woodblock, duck call, vibra-slap, train whistle, triangle, ratchet, siren/whistle, and bells) to represent the assembling of toys in Santa's toy shop. A really fun selection for that holiday concert, featuring the percussion section with a lot of different sounds from Santa's toys. Good performances demonstrate good dynamic contrasts.

The complete soundtrack to The Good, the Bad and the Ugly was released in 1966 and sold millions of copies. Since 1983, heavy-metal band Metallica have been opening concerts with Morricone's dramatic and exciting song, The Ecstasy of Gold. VIEW SCORE PDF This rousing and pulsating work by Kevin Norbury forms part of the suite A Renaissance Christmas, also published by BrookWright Music. It is based on three popular carols - In Dulci Jubilo, Good Christian men, rejoice! and Ding-dong merrily on high. This magnificent 13th-century melody was also a part of Michael Praetorius's collection. It is traditionally associated with the words 'Good Christian men, rejoice!' The opening is a straight transcription of the great chorale prelude for organ by J.S.Bach. After the grandeur of the opening, the tune is heard in more of a 'folky' style. A lot of related melodic material is then presented before the tune Ding-dong merrily on high is heard. After another episode of previously used music In Dulci Jubilo reappears in a joyful conclusion to the piece. Let the soloists "speak" with good phrasing and focus also on harmony in the unison melody lines.
