One of the members of The Salvation Army's 1960s phenomenon "The Joystrings," Joy Webb has a string of popular songs to her name, several of which contributed to the charts successes of enjoyed by the group. In more recent years, many of her tunes have found their why into instrumental repertoire.A prime example of Joy's remarkable gifting is her beautiful Share My Yoke. Although the deeply spiritual words of Share My Yoke may be unfamiliar to some, the sheer beauty of the melody is without doubt. An expressive solo for flute and band, this slow, blue-tinged piece is the result of the opportunity given by the Covid lockdown of 2020 to look anew at some old songs. In this one, a fairly straightforward but expressive melodic line is stated in its original form then repeated in a much expanded and occasionally florid setting, allowing the soloist to cover a range from low C up to top A. Eventually the music returns to the tranquillity of the opening.The band accompaniment was written in 2024 and is kept light but colourful allowing the soloist to be expressive without fighting to project through the texture.Duration: 3.45

It took place on 10th March 1906 and is considered the worst mining accident in Europe and the second most significant in the world. The Eagle's Quest was commissioned by Brevik Musikkorps (Norway) to mark the 400th anniversary of the birth of Cort Adeler, a renowned Norwegian-Dutch sailor who was born in the town of Brevik in 1622. His Dutch name Adelaer means eagle. This work celebrates his life but is not programmatic, simply reflecting Brevik's pride in one of its most famous sons.
