Sunrise at Angel's Gate (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip
This piece depicts the refined beauty of the Grand Canyon at sunrise and sunset. These are the best times to view the Canyon with the sun low in the sky casting shadows that give depth and form to the vast panorama. Angel's Gate is one of the many named rock formations in the canyon. The composer has tried to depict the sights and sounds of dawn, birdsong in the early morning sky and the gradual revelation of the Canyon itself as sunlight reaches into its rocky depths.Towards the end of the piece, to the sound of a tolling bell, we are however reminded of the dangers that the beauty of the Grand Canyon so cleverly hides.Duration: 10:40

Carol of the Shepherds (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip
Carol of the Shepherds is based on the hymn tune 'Quem Pastores Laudavere' which dates back to the 14th century and is widely known throughout the Christian world. Although the melody has been set to a number of different texts in different countries it was originally a carol celebrating the Christmas story, in particular the visit of the Angel Gabriel to the shepherds.Duration: 2:50

Earth, Water, Sun, Wind (Symphony No.1) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip
Earth, Water, Sun, Wind is a four movement work with the unifying theme of these four elements. The music varies from being purely descriptive of the movements' titles to specific sound painting - Earth, for example, is pure music and non programmatic whereas Sun attempts to paint a specific sound picture. The Symphony as a whole concerns itself with man's relationship with these monumental aspects of nature.Duration 31:30Recorded on Anglo Records AR001-3 Earth, Water Sun, Wind

Tijuana Trumpets (Trumpet Section feature with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip
Here is an opportunity for the trumpets to go through their paces! The syncopated nature of the tune may be unfamiliar to many young players, but once the sound is in their heads there shouldn't be a problem. The middle passage is a good test of counting and needs everyone to be confident of their entries. Players are also introduced here to the concept of first-and second-time bars (endings) and the D.C.Duration: 1.45

Jamaica Farewell (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip
This gentle Caribbean song is a useful introduction to syncopation for all instruments. Such rhythms should, however, be played smoothly and without undue accents to maintain the character of the melody.Duration: 1:45

Mumbo Jumbo (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip
Mumbo Jumbo is a piece with a Latin American flavour though not specifically in any of the recognised dance styles. The first percussion part can be elaborated if additional players and instruments are available: bongos, tambourine and claves will help here. Dynamics play an important part in this piece and should be carefully graded.Duration: 1:45

FANFARE TO PLANET EARTH and MILLENNIUM MARCH (Prestige Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Fanshawe, David - Sparke, Philip
These two works may be performed individually or, as published, together. Fanfare to Planet Earth - the Fanfare opens dramatically with heraldic trumpets answered by sforzando strikes on deep percussion. The Fanfare embraces the splendour and grandeur of our planet Earth, molto grandioso, and culminates in a chordal cluster - a blaze of brass and percussion in G major, describing feelings of optimism at the start of the 21st century. Performance time 1'50". Millennium March - constructed along classical lines, the theme of Millennium March is catchy and not without humour. Its recurring motif on trumpets, con brio, develops the opening bars of the Fanfare. The March gathers momentum through several dramatic key-changes and ends with a surprise flourish of chromaticism, marked Tempo Apocalyptic. Cannons and fireworks are optional! Performance time 4'10'
