Three English Folk Song Miniatures (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip
England enjoys a rich folk song tradition. Composers such as Cecil Sharp and Vaughan Williams rekindled an interest in this heritage at the beginning of the 20th century by arranging numerous songs, some of which were transcribed for the first time. Philip Sparke selected three songs from the 18th and 19 century for his Three Folk Song Miniatures: the sherman's song Dance to Your Daddy, the love song O Waly, Waly and Bobby Shafto, a song from the northwest of England.Duration: 5:30

Overture for a Special Occasion (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip
The special occasion that Philip Sparke was honoured to write this piece for was the 200th anniversary of the Stadtmusik Bad Sackingen. Since Bad Sackingen is known as the 'Trompeterstadt', or trumpeter city, Sparke's creative process was influenced by Joseph Victor Scheffel's poem, Der Trompeter von Sackingen (The Trumpeter from Sackingen), which is based on a true story. The overture starts with a majestic fanfare, followed by a lively molto vivace. It is joined by a brilliant trumpet call in honour of the city's famous resident.Duration: 7:30

A Medieval Christmas (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip
Christmas is full of customs and traditions, both old and new. This is especially evident in Christmas songs, some of which have been part of Christian worship for centuries. A Medieval Christmas combines three ancient melodies that are still popular around the world today. Philip Sparke chose Gaudete, a song of praise from the middle ages, Coventry Carol, an English song from the 14th century, and In dulci jubilo, which can also be traced back to the 14th century, to form this joyous suite.Duration: 6:45

Drink to Me Only With Thine Eyes (Trumpet Solo with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Callcott, J. W. - Sparke, Philip

Hail the Dragon! (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip
Its title, Hail the Dragon!, references a work Philip Sparke wrote in 1984, The Year of the Dragon. The piece opens with a lively and energetic fanfare. The mood becomes more subdued in the centre section as a new theme is introduced that builds to an emotional climax. This leads into a recap of the opening fanfare which acts as a type of descant to short quotations from the last movement of The Year of the Dragon before reaching a thunderous finale.Duration: 4.45

A Weekend in New York (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip
Philip Sparke was so inspired and moved by his first visit to New York, that he had to capture the moment in one of his compositions. At first a general picture of New York is presented as all the sights and sounds are taken it. Eventually the composer finds himself in Manhattan. Walking along a street, music can be heard wafting from one of the jazz-clubs. This musical representation of personal impressions creates an extremely memorable work.Duration: 7:45
