Mars 1488 was commissioned by the Commander of the Naval Forces on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy in 2010. The title refers to the year 1488, in which the 'Dutch Fleet' was founded. It was premiered at the annual corps concerts at De Doelen in Rotterdam on 1 and 2 December 2010.Since then, this march has been much loved by both the Marine Band and the public and has been performed frequently at home and abroad.March 1488 has been available from Molenaar Edition since 2024 for both concert band and fanfare band.

The Dutch composer and conductor Ton Kotter (Aalten 1906 -1991) was trumpeter-violinist with the Royal Marine Band before being appointed conductor of the Nijmegen Police Band. He conducted a lot of amateur wind bands (a.o. in Helmond, Nijmegen, Tilburg, Hilvarenbeek, Glanerbrug, Enschede and Loon op Zand) and for these bands he wrote several fine marches. Among his best-known marches are 'Hunter March' (1976) and 'Ambiorix' (1976). 'All-In', probably his last march, was composed in 1981 for the 70th anniversary of the symphonic band 'Excelsior' at Eibergen, conducted by the composer.

Chips In A Bag - Leslie Searle
This is a stirring, skilful transfer of pop-style music for youth wind band. The original composition can he performed by smaller bands: the larger score is for additional Instruments. Leslie Searle came to Germany in 1965 as a Saxophonist in the Band of the Royal Air Force. He has composed and made arrangements of music by Kurt Edelhagen among others, and has played in numerous bands. He is now director of a private music school in Remscheid.

The regal theme appears again in the coda, concluding in brilliance. This great civilization vanished in 10 A.D., leaving only remnants of a remarkably prosperous world. Thousands of ruins large and small remain locked in a dense world of jungle, with huge crumbled cities having lain forgotten for eight centuries.II. Glorious ruins still ariseII characterizes this civilization from glory, to destruction, to the present with its buried ruins. To begin, stone cities wait silently cloaked in jungle, steadfastly eluding discovery. As time passes slowly, the music reflects back to the glory of the Maya. Though wishing to turn back the hands of time for this incredible civilization, its fate and the gravity of its loss are carried forward in the profound silence of eternal loss. Early in 1989 Jean Baily, director of the Royal Conservatoire in Bruxelles, asked his very close friend Andr Waignein to compose a piece which could be performed by the conservatoire's saxophone class. Andr Waignein was readily agreeable. Not only was his father a saxophone player, but himself felt strongly attracted to the instrument and he was further encouraged into accepting the commission by his friend Alain Crepin, saxophone teacher at the Bruxelles Conservatoire.The piece he composed consists of two movements, hence the title. An elergy is expressed by means of a melody which is full with pronounced magnanimity, full of spectacular musical freedom enabling thesoloist to express himself to the full. In this movement the melodic element is of the utmost importance.The capriccio, the second movement is musically disconcerting. The band's accompaniment is particulary important. Due to the high notes, the soloist brings this capriccio to a close with enthusiastic virtuosity.

£69.99Prince of Denmark's March - Jeremiah Clarke
Jeremiah Clarke (c. 1674-1707) belongs to the generation of English composers following that of Henry Purcell. Not much is known about his early life, but by 1685 he was a chorister of the Chapel Royal, a group of liturgical musicians attached to the court. He held the post of organist at Winchester College from 1692 but later returned to London as Master of the Choristers at St Paul's Cathedral. The Prince of Denmark's March is perhaps his best-known work and was originally written for harpsichord, although Clarke later included it in a collection of pieces for wind instruments.
