Alegria (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob

Alegria (Joy) is a vivacious four-minute concert opener full of energy and good humour. It begins with a fanfare-like statement from the brass while the woodwind weave decorative patterns around it. The following themes are occasionally a little quirky. Although there are occasional moments when a cloud obscures the sun the music is overwhelming optimistic in spirit and fun to play. Duration: 4.00

A Christmas Carol (Main Theme) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Silvestri, Alan - Longfield, Robert

From the popular 2009 movie A Christmas Carol (starring Jim Carrey as Scrooge), Alan Silvestri's sparkling main theme is really more of an overture, mixing in familiar carols with memorable original themes. Beautifully paced and effectively scored for band, this is a real holiday treat for the concert stage!

Toccata and Chorale (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Curnow, James

Written in a sophisticated and dynamic style, this work from James Curnow is more impressive sounding than the easy grade level would indicate. Opening with a rhythmic and intense toccata, this theme is contrasted with a sustained and lyric chorale section. Both themes are combined at the end for a powerful and rewarding finish.

Three Sisters (Dream Sequence) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Walton, William - Noble, Paul

Three Sisters is a 1970 British drama film starring Alan Bates, Laurence Olivier and Joan Plowright, based on the 1900 play by Anton Chekhov. Olivier also directed, with co-director John Sichel; it was the final feature film directed by Olivier. The film was based on a 1967 theatre production that Olivier had directed at the Royal National Theatre. William Walton produced the film music using themes by Tchaikovsky, from the official national anthem of the Russian Empire in 1833 - 1917, God save the Tsar!, (the music of which is also included in several hymnals as 'God, the Omnipotent'), and which he featured in his 1812 Overture, to a charming imitation Swan Lake waltz. The original theme for Three Sisters has reappeared as contemporary stage plays and musicals, which are still active today. This short, descriptive arrangement offers an accessible opportunity for bands to experience tuneful music of the period.

A Star Danced (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Renshaw, Nicola

A Star Danced (Y Seren Ddawns)Much Ado About Nothing is widely considered one of Shakespeare's finest comedies, combining elements of stout gaiety with more serious meditations on honour, shame, and court politics. A Star Danced mirrors the chronicles of two pairs of lovers: Benedick and Beatrice, and Claudio and Hero. Benedick and Beatrice are engaged in a very "merry war" of wits; they are both very glib and proclaim their disdain of love. In contrast, Claudio and Hero are sweet young people who are rendered practically speechless by their love for one another. Although the young lovers Hero and Claudio provide the main impetus for the plot, the key themes in the piece are inspired by the courtship between the older, wiser lovers Benedick and Beatrice; developing from antagonism to sincere love and compassion as Beatrice finally confesses her capacity for happiness to Don Pedro; a celebration of new beginning: There was a star danced and under that I was born.Includes:The Merry Wits of WarHero's ThemeThere was a Star Danced...Beatrice & Benedick.Duration: 5:30Recorded on Polyphonic QPRM162D Mysteries of the Horizon
