Pastorale de Provence (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Cesarini, Franco
Cesarini composed this work as a tribute to the memory of Darius Milhaud, born a century earlier in Aix-en-Provence, France. The premiere, conducted by the composer, was presented by the Civic Philharmonic of Balerna in December, 1992. The titles of the four-part suite include: La Villageoise (The Village Maiden), Le petit berger (The Little Shepherd), La Princesse (The Princess) and Le Lutin (The Imp). The numerous musical reference themes begin with five folksongs from the Provence region and continue with melodies written by French composers of the seventeenth century. Additional interest is created by the use of old dance forms (Ronde, Musette, Pavane and Farandole) to illustrate each historical character.Duration: 9:30

A Festive Overture (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Reed, Alfred
A Festive Overture was commissioned by the Tri-State Festival, held annually under the auspices of the Music Division of Dickinson State College in Dickinson, North Dakota, for performance at the 1963 Festival. The first performance took place on November 2nd, 1963, at the concluding grand concert of the festival, with the Dickinson State College Symphonic Band under the composer's direction. The score is in traditional overture form, a brilliant opening allegro followed by a reflective, lyrical interlude, and concluding with a return to the first themes and mood. The entire work is built on three motifs, which are heard in the first section, with the middle section developed from one of these, which first appears as the bass line to the main theme. In the course of the work, the full resources of the modern, integrated concert band are called upon, to present these motifs in constantly varied forms and combinations, and in scintillating tone colors. The wording of the commission presented a basic challenge: that of writing a major work on the highest musical level and yet capable of performance by a good high school band. We believe that this challenge has been met, and are proud to offer this work as a contribution to the modern school and concert band repertoire.

Air Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
One of the best-known and most popular classical themes comes from Johann Sebastian Bach's Third Suite for Orchestra. The Air on a G-string has already been adapted for many instrumental combinations, but arrangements for concert-band are a comparatively rare commodity. This void is filled with this highly competent wind-band setting by Jan Bosveld. Needless to say that the work is suitable for many occasions. 05:30

Auld Lang Syne Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
Whereas 'Auld Lang Syne' may be considered the best-known Scottish song ever, yet at the same time it is an obscure one, for there are but few people who know the complete text by heart. After the familiar 'Should auld acquaintance be forgot .....' many people take their refuge to lyrics like 'rum tee dum ta dee ..... lah, lah, lah ........... for auld lang syne'. Even in Scotland only a handful of persons know the entire text and are able to give a correct rendering of it. The current lyrics have been attributed to the Scottish poet Robert Burns. Burns, however, he did not write the whole poem : after he had heard an old man sing the centuries-old Scotch ballad, he wrote it down and added a number of stanzas (1788). Historical research teaches us that the ballad served many purposes, both political and religious. Nowadays, 'Auld Lang Syne' is sung as a Christmas Carol and it is also sung on New Year's Eve at the turning of the year. Apart from that, though, the song is also sung on many other occasions - sometimes with different lyrics, which usually have Love, Friendship and/or Parting as their themes, as these go well with the fascinating melody. In this arrangement a low-sounding solo instrument is central. The harmonization in the accompaniment fits in perfectly with the sentiments this song will evoke. Should auld acquaintance be forgot And never brought to mind? Should auld acquintance be forgot. And days of auld lang syne? For auld lang syne, my dear, For auld lang syne, We'll take a cup of kindness yet, For auld lang syne. 03:00

BOHEMIAN DANCES (Concert Band) - Woolfenden, Guy
Includes:1. Shepherds and Shepherdesses2. Florizel and Perdita3. Dance of the SatyrsOne of my favourite Shakespeare plays is The Winter's Tale, and I have written music for three completely different productions during my time as Head of Music to the Royal Shakespeare Company. One, starring Judi Dench as both the mother, Hermione and her daughter, Perdita, had a big band Tribal Love-Rock score; another had a more classical, but timeless feel to it, and the last was an excellent small-scale touring production, for which I was allowed only a handful of instruments. It is from this source that the basic themes for Bohemian Dances, and an earlier version Three Dances for Clarinet Choir, have emerged. Act IV of the play is set in the kingdom of Bohemia - hence the title of the work.Shakespeare calls for "A Dance of Shepherds and Shepherdesses", which gives Florizel, the son of Polixenes, (King of Bohemia) a chance to become better acquainted with the beautiful Perdita, the lost daughter of Leontes, (King of Sicilia). This movement is written in seemingly tricky and ever-changing metres, but is rhythmically quite logical and melodically catchy. The slower second movement 'Florizel and Perdita' is the lovers' pas de deux: a gentle, slow waltz-like tune, initially presented by the principal oboe, is contrasted with a lndler-like double time melody, at the end of which a solo clarinet makes a link to the last movement.'Dance of the Satyrs' is a rip-roaring, foot-stamping dance performed in the play by 'three carters, three shepherds, three neat-herds, and three swine-herds', who enter in outrageous costumes representing the lecherous half-man, half-goat of Greek mythology. This dance is referred to as a "gallimaufry of gambols" - now where have I heard that word before?! - GW

Flashing Eyes Of Andalusia (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sousa, John Philip
A "barn-burner" from the Big Apple. Sousa's hustle-bustle "New York march" captures both the brilliant, restless energy and the soaring lyrical themes inspired by mid-town Manhattan in 1915. Arranged with all of the style, excitement, and vividly colorful details of the Sousa Band's own performances. Sousa's Band played frequently in New York's enormous "Hippodrome Theater," a predecessor of today's Radio City Music Hall.

ILLYRIAN DANCES (Concert Band) - Woolfenden, Guy
Includes:I. RondeauII. AubadeIII. GigueThis suite of three dances was commissioned by the British Association of Symphonic Bands and Wind Ensembles with funds provided by West Midlands Arts. The first performance took place on 26th September 1986 at Warwick University during the fifth annual BASBWE Conference. As with Gallimaufry, some of the thematic material is adapted from music originally written for productions with the Royal Shakespeare Company. The precise location of Illyria was not important to Shakespeare; what excited him was the resonance of the word itself and the romance of all far away, make believe places. Illyria is Never Never Land and the idea of inventing dances for such a place intrigued me.The opening Rondeau has a seven bar refrain with a rhythmic twist to it, which alternates with variants highlighting most sections of the orchestra. The Aubade is a gentle dance in ternary form featuring the flutes, with a hint of the dawn chorus at the close. The final Gigue is a rondo in six-eight time, with the recurring theme also appearing in counterpoint to the many subsidiary themes.Illyrian Dances is dedicated to my old and good friend Timothy Reynish.-GW

Legend of Pirates Cove
Pirates on the high seas come to life in this programmatic work for young band by Rob Romeyn! Our adventure begins with the ominous sight of the pirate ship as it appears from behind an island. Music builds and the story unfolds, first rhythmically and aggressively, and then calming. A beautifully lyric middle section reminiscent of a sea chantey will help insure that this be a favorite for concert and festival use. Memorable themes and contrasting styles will appeal to performers and audiences alike. Ahoy, Matey!
