According to music critic Mark Azarra, Leroy Anderson (1908-1975) was "one of the four best composers of instrumental music in the 20th century, next to George Gershwin, Aaron Copland and Charles Ives". Many of his nostalgic songs such as Sleigh Ride and Blue Tango are firmly embedded in the American popular music culture.
