Symphony No.2 contains four movements and a coda, all played without a break, following the traditional symphonic pattern. The Introduction presents the main thematic material of the piece which is characterized by rising and falling 5ths a semitone apart. The Quaver Machine has a repeated, relentless constant quaver pulse from the vibraphone. The harmony circles around only 3 chords and the section builds with more and more instruments being played in harmony and in canon. A shift in tonality gradually leads to Adagio, an almost opulently romantic presentation of the main theme with a rippling accompaniment. After a massive climax, the music leads to Finale with the main theme presented as an Ostinato gradually introducing the full band to another large climax. Gradually, everything quietens down for the Coda, a varied repetition of the Introduction but ending with a last reminiscence of the Adagio. Duration: 14 mins.

£75.00The Fair Field Overture (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Arnold, Malcolm
The Fairfield Halls are built on the site of Croydon's old fair field and the music is rather reminiscent of a huge switchback ride in three-four time interspersed with a sprightly two-four prelude which seems to depict the general jollity of the fair ground. The main tune then expands to three-two time making for a grandiose finale. The general structure of the music is based on the chord of the major seventh which produces an interesting hurdy-gurdy effect.

The Pirates of Penzance (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sousa, John Philip
Sousa's unique and never-before published concert "grand march" was composed as a tribute to two other popular American composers, Stephen Foster and Ethelbert Nevin. Along with an original Sousa march theme it includes Foster's "Come Where My Love Lies Dreaming" and Nevin's still widely familiar tune "Narcissus." All three of the melodies: Sousa, Foster and Nevin, combine in multi-layered splendor for the riotous finale.

The Tournament Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
Colour and versatility is the key to this composition in three movements by Carl Wittrock. The Tournament is the most versatile piece of music you could wish for. Movement 1 (March) is an excellent, lively concert opener. The 2nd movement (Ballad) is a calm interlude, which provides much freedom for expression. Movement 3 (Dance) sweeps the piece along to the inevitable Grande Finale: a rousing melody with prominent rhythmic support. 11:45
