A Little Night Music - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart / arr. Todd Stalter
Mozart's Serenade No. 13 for strings in G Major, K. 525 is commonly referred to as "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik," which stands for "a little serenade," but is more familiar to music lovers as "a little night music." This arrangement uses themes from the first movement, and is cast in a comfortable key and range for young band musicians. Concerto in D, Opus 7, No. 6 - Tomaso Albinoni / arr. David Marlatt
This three-movement , somewhat reminiscent of Handel in character, was originally for oboe, strings, and continuo. Solo parts have been provided to feature either oboe, clarinet (in B-flat or A), or piccolo trumpet in A. The rich, full sound of a band accompaniment is a large step away from the original strings but is suitable and striking in its contrast with the support sound under the soloist. (6:55)

A Cornfield in July and The River - William Penn
With music by William Penn and words based on the writings and poetry of Hamlin Garlin, this is a unique and beautiful opportunity to feature a medium voice with wind ensemble (no saxophones, flugelhorns instead of tpts). Sensitive and extremely musical, with nice variety in the various percussion instrument parts, especially, it is a terrific solo vehicle.

Guaracha: Third Movement from Latin American Symphonette (Symphonette No. 4) - Morton Gould, ed./arr. by David Bennett
The "Guaracha" is the Third Movement from Mr. Gould's fourth Symphonette, LATIN AMERICAN SYMPHONETTE, which is in four movements - Rhumba, Tango, Guaracha, and Conga. The "Guaracha," relatively speaking, is the "minuet" movement. The name has two implications - one, that of a "drinking song" to which the word Guaracha is extensively employed in South American music, and second, that of a definite dance pattern. This movement has utilized both ideas, being a development rather than a literal interpretation of the original form. The Symphonette was completed in the winter of 1940 and received its first performance with the NYA Symphony under the direction of Fritz Mahler on February 22, 1941. This version for band is arranged from the original score by David Bennett.

Solveig's Song (from Peer Gynt Suite No. 2) - Edvard Grieg
Composed by Edvard Grieg in 1875, music from Peer Gynt was originally incidental music for Henrik Ibsen's five-act play. The beautiful Solveig's Song is from the second orchestral suite later extracted by Grieg. Johnnie's tender setting opens with a lyric theme scored for the trumpet section. A brief andante section features the woodwinds before returning to the opening melody this time richly scored for full band. A beautiful work for teaching lyric style playing.
