Cats Tales pays tribute to four wonderful musicians who shared a love of jazz and New York City. Film composer Elmer Bernstein is remembered in 1) Catalonia before a musical gear change that references the work of his contemporary colleague, "Bernstein East", aka Leonard Bernstein. The presence of West Side Story looms large here. Henry Mancini's most famous composition (which concerned a cat of the pink variety) provides the inspiration for the 2nd movement, 2) Catwalk before saxophone legend Sonny Rollins's jazz standard Airegin is given a contrafact treatment in 3) Scat! allowing a number of instrumental soloists to shine. NB: The suite can be extended by including the trombone solo Catnap (see above) and the Toccata (see below), available separately

Cyrano Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
This delightful new composition takes its inspiration from the classic French swash buckling tale of Cyrano de Bergerac and his fight to win the love of the beautiful maiden Roxane. The subject was a perfect departure point for composing a symphonic poem with a variety of musical aspects reflecting the story. Lyricism (the theme of Roxane), dramatic episodes, as well as Debussy-inspired impressionist moments are some of the elements that give the band and its conductor the chance to expose themselves as a versatile ensemble being able to create colour, to sing and to play like virtuosi. Follow The River
This haunting and distinctive work is based on a novel by celebrated author/historian James Alexander Thom. Melodies in both minor and major tell the 1755 true account of a young woman who, after having escaped from the Shawnee Indians, tries to find her way home. With the Ohio River as her guide, Mary Ingles begins a one thousand mile journey through the wilderness in her valiant attempt to reach that goal. Fra Diavolo Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
The French composer Daniel Fran?ois Esprit Auber (1782-1871) witnessed many important developments in the history of music ? from Luigi Cherubini to Richard Wagner. His extensive output consisted mainly of operas, but unfortunately today only two of these are still well known, including the comic opera Fra Diavolo. The story concerns Fra Diavolo, a famous Italian bandit and soldier from the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and is one of crime, lust and treachery. The overture has a classical structure and is filled with striking themes and motifs and has a particularly unusual introduction (for the time) with the snare drum taking the leading role! 0:08:22
