Saskatchewan Overture - Howard Cable
In the mid 19th Century Saskatchewan was a vast, flat, treeless and lawless area. In the 21st century it is a vibrant energetic blend of wheat, oil, potash and gas. Commissioned by The Saskatoon Concert Band, it was my goal to capture, in music, the forward thrust and the rhythmic pulse of the province today.

Rock Quest - Steve Hodges
Your band's desire for some "cool" music can be met with this new dynamic rock piece. An infectious bass line provides a solid foundation for the main theme which also features some nice "blues" licks between phrases. Everybody gets a turn playing the melody, and the harmony parts provide interest as well. A terrific tune to program at any concert!

Month of the Cold Moon - Roland Barrett
Inspired by the tragic story of "The Trail of Tears," this work depicts the long journey made by the Cherokees when they were forced to leave their land and journey a thousand miles on foot. From shock to outrage, the opening section paints a vivid picture of chaos, depicted by forceful bass pedal points and powerful chords throughout the group. Unison ensemble hits announce the beginning of the journey. As the music builds, the unison hits continue to interject so as not to be forgotten. The middle section captures immense sadness and desperation through the use of delicate textures and lush harmonies. Previous themes all come together as the final section seeks to bring closure to this tragic event in American history. Powerful and emotional.

L'Esprit du Tour: A Fanfare for Lance - Randol Alan Bass
This remarkable piece captures the excitement, physical challenge, intensity and, ultimately, the thrill and sense of accomplishment a rider might experience during such a grueling and demanding physical trial as Le Tour de France. Both tonal and non-tonal compositional materials, some indeterminate and serial techniques, special percussion (a six-tom-tom cluster, heavy chains and four metal plates) along with traditional and non-traditional development procedures are used --impressing upon listeners, through sound, a sense and feel of competitive bicycling, from the point of view of the athletes themselves. In hopes of imbuing the music with the flavor of the various cultures coming together for this contest, the composition contains extant source material as well -- including La Marsellaise, The Star-Spangled Banner and a brief reference to The Eyes of Texas.

Lest We Forget - Elliot Del Borgo
This extensive work is powerful and emotionally riveting. Slight variations of Civil War songs are recognizable while providing new material to keep the performer and listener engaged in the music. The piece changes style and tempo several times, ending with a very sensitive underscoring as a narrator recites Lincoln's second inaugural address before a heroic ending. (9:20)

March and Cortege of Bacchus - Joseph Kreines
Leo Delibes composed his ballet, "Sylvia," in 1876. It achieved considerable popularity, and several of the individual numbers were grouped into a suite which orchestras all over the world have played. The appears in Act III of the ballet, describing the arrival of Bacchus and his followers. The music is martial, lyric, grand and brilliant, building to an exciting conclusion.
