Spider Legs (Concert Band - Score Only) - Wiffin, Rob
Spider Legs is a vibrant Latin dance number. Although I have used Latin rhythms in pieces in recent years this is the first time I have returned wholeheartedly to one of my favourite types of music since I wrote Tiptoe Tune in 2001. Typically I wrote it when I should have been writing something else but I really enjoyed going back to these rhythms. Stylistically Spider Legs can best be described I suppose as 'Merengue House' but perhaps it is better without any description! It was composed in 2014, shortly after the birth of my granddaughter Emma Louisa who was nicknamed 'Spider Legs' at the time and the name seemed to fit the music so well that I could not resist it.

Villages (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sweeney, Michael
Calling for the band to be divided into four separate ensembles (and spread apart if space permits), Villages explores a wide range of harmonic and rhythmic interplay between each of these musical villages. The opening creates a dense canopy of sound, out of which the unique identity of each group variously emerges then melts back into the texture. As the fast pace continues, melodic fragments are bounced from group to group with interjections from the percussion. A slower lyric section provides contrast before the frantic pace returns leading to the exciting conclusion. Innovative in its conception, this stunning work will expose your students and audience to dramatically new sounds for band!Duration: 8:15

Siorai September (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Hazo, Samuel R.
Translated from Gaelic as "Eternal September," this marvellous setting for band is designed to take each listener back to their own vivid fall memories on a college campus. Commissioned by the University of Notre Dame and premiered at their Carnegie Hall performance in 2010, this work is also dedicated to the composer's father, Dr. Samuel J. Hazo, a 1949 graduate of Notre Dame. Additionally, Dr. Hazo's poem "Home Are the Sailors" is incorporated in the middle of the piece. Rich in musical references and varied textures, this is a dramatic and rewarding work for mature ensembles.Duration: 5:30

Two Bagatelles (Flexible Ensemble - Score and Parts) - Reed, Alfred - Clark, Andy
Alfred Reed's "Two Bagatelles" was first published as a trombone quartet, then enlarged to a brass choir and finally to a full concert band setting. Andy Clark has taken it back to its beginnings and adapted it for the Barnhouse Build-A-Band Series, so that students in very small bands will get a chance to perform music by this master composer. Sounds great if the four basic parts are covered among the instruments present.Duration: 5.00

Emerald Jubilee (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Haan, Jan
An Emerald Jubilee celebrates a 40th anniversary. Jan de Haan composed this colourfully orchestrated concert march to celebrate Will van der Beek's 40th anniversary as conductor of the Deutsche Musikverein Haaren. As publisher of van der Beek's transcriptions of classical works Jan de Haan can look back on many years of successful collaboration with the knowledge that there will be many more to come. Unusually cast in a minor key, the main theme provides an interesting contrast to the more melodic major key of the second movement. The relatively slow theme gives this march a dignified stately and subdued quality.Duration: 2.45

Space Journey (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Ciechomski, Brad
Space Journey is a three-movement suite depicting the launch, orbit and return to earth of a spaceship. Pony Express (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Bernotas, Chris M.
Pony Express reminds us of a time when the fastest way to deliver a message was on horseback, riding across the plains, mountains and desert. This piece has a slight "off-beat" gallop for the horseback ride and a lyrical section that is reminiscent of looking out over the vast spaciousness of the plains... and then we are back on the mission to deliver the mail and on to a most enjoyable finish!Duration: 4.00

Concerto for Wind Ensemble (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Husa, Karel
Commissioned by the Michigan State University Alumni Band, this three movement work by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Karel Husa was the winner of the first Louis Sudler International Wind Band Composition Competition in 1983. Previously available only in rental, this important work is now available for sale.A note from the composer: Divided into three movements, this work is a display of virtuoso passages given to solo instruments as well as to the groups of the ensemble. In the Fanfare of the first movement, the brass section "concertizes" in groups of four brass quintets (2 trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba or baritone), spread from left to right in back. The saxophones (S, A, T, B) are placed in front of the brass quintets, and the woodwinds occupy the front of the stage, with percussion on the left and right side. These groups, like the brass quintets, play in the concertante style, particularly in the first and last movements. At the same time, each movement contains individual solo passages (for example, timpani and flute in Movement I - "Drum Ceremony" and English horn and other low woodwinds in Movement II - "Elegy"). The composition of this piece was prompted by the excellence of wind and percussion players today, and by the incredible growth of wind ensembles, orchestras, and bands in the last 25 years. It is intended for their enjoyment.Duration: 23:00
