Salutation (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Esenvalds, Eriks - Littlemore, Philip

Salutation was originally composed for a cappella choir to a poem by Bengali poet and musician Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941). The music takes up the spiritual message of the poem, that we live our lives in one salutation to God ending back in an eternal home. Phillip Littlemore's brilliant arrangement for concert band adds a work of great contemplative beauty to the repertoire. Duration: 3:30

Sans Day Carol (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Kamuf, Michael

This piece dates back to 19th-century Cornwall County in southwest England, and the lyrics most associated with this melody are similar to the text of "The Holly and the Ivy." This arrangement of the beautiful carol gives beginning band students an opportunity to work on expressive playing while using limited technical demands. Fitting for both holiday and festival performances.Duration: 1:45

Changes Ahead (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sherburne, Erik

What starts out as a fanfare quickly becomes variations on the opening themes. As the title suggests, those themes are musical foreshadowing for the "Changes Ahead". With effective use of mixed meters, changing keys and rhythms there is an excitement that builds off of otherwise simple melodies. In the middle section comes a lyrical contrast with a sense of anticipation that the "changed" themes are coming back to a powerful ending, where all the themes combine. "Changes Ahead" showcases each section of the band, but more importantly it will challenge them to listen to other themes and compliment them. With lots of percussion, dramatic brass, flowing winds this piece creates a bold musical experience for the band and the audience. Duration: 5.45

Spider Legs (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob

Spider Legs is a vibrant Latin dance number. Although I have used Latin rhythms in pieces in recent years this is the first time I have returned wholeheartedly to one of my favourite types of music since I wrote Tiptoe Tune in 2001. Typically I wrote it when I should have been writing something else but I really enjoyed going back to these rhythms. Stylistically Spider Legs can best be described I suppose as 'Merengue House' but perhaps it is better without any description! It was composed in 2014, shortly after the birth of my granddaughter Emma Louisa who was nicknamed 'Spider Legs' at the time and the name seemed to fit the music so well that I could not resist it.

Translated from Gaelic as "Eternal September," this marvellous setting for band is designed to take each listener back to their own vivid fall memories on a college campus. Commissioned by the University of Notre Dame and premiered at their Carnegie Hall performance in 2010, this work is also dedicated to the composer's father, Dr. Samuel J. Hazo, a 1949 graduate of Notre Dame. Additionally, Dr. Hazo's poem "Home Are the Sailors" is incorporated in the middle of the piece. Rich in musical references and varied textures, this is a dramatic and rewarding work for mature ensembles.Duration: 5:30

Emerald Jubilee (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Haan, Jan

An Emerald Jubilee celebrates a 40th anniversary. Jan de Haan composed this colourfully orchestrated concert march to celebrate Will van der Beek's 40th anniversary as conductor of the Deutsche Musikverein Haaren. As publisher of van der Beek's transcriptions of classical works Jan de Haan can look back on many years of successful collaboration with the knowledge that there will be many more to come. Unusually cast in a minor key, the main theme provides an interesting contrast to the more melodic major key of the second movement. The relatively slow theme gives this march a dignified stately and subdued quality.Duration: 2.45

Ride On (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Bernotas, Chris M.

On May 10, 1869, the east and west coasts were linked by a golden spike in Promontory Point, Utah. The completion of the Transcontinental Railroad made cross country travel and the anticipated riches of the west accessible to the masses. Ride On celebrates the wonder and excitement of train travel. The journey begins with an exciting melody as we pull into stations along the way to explore new destinations, and then are back on track to enjoy the majestic views of the American landscape.Duration: 6.00

Pony Express (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Bernotas, Chris M.

Pony Express reminds us of a time when the fastest way to deliver a message was on horseback, riding across the plains, mountains and desert. This piece has a slight "off-beat" gallop for the horseback ride and a lyrical section that is reminiscent of looking out over the vast spaciousness of the plains... and then we are back on the mission to deliver the mail and on to a most enjoyable finish!Duration: 4.00
