Fanfare for the Champions (Concert Band - Score and Parts)
Fanfare for the Champions was commissioned by the municipal concert band of Landeck under the direction of Helmut Schmid on the occasion of the 375th anniversary of the band. The orchestra, which premiered Nostradamus (a key work of the composer), and which also commissioned Mantua - Freedom of the Eagle, has forged a friendship with the composer over a period of many years. This orchestra has participated in the major European competitions and has always performed with distinction--thus the title of the work Fanfare for the Champions.The fanfare, which is written in a style typical for the composer, should convey a feeling of happiness: the feeling to have created or accomplished something special. As the title suggests, Festivo is a festive piece, exuberant in style and lasting some six minutes. Throughout, there is much emphasis on rhythm and the scoring utilises many solo and chamber-like textures. It is cast in rondo form with a longish introduction which announces in fragmented form some of the main ideas. The main theme is light-hearted and exuberant, heard first on clarinets but immediately tossed around the band. The first episode starts quietly but gradually adds layer upon layer of repeated fragments until the whole band is heard. The final statement of the rondo tune is heralded by Tubular Bells and bell-like chords on the brass, after which a short coda brings the work to an exciting conclusion. Duration: 6:00

GAELFORCE (Concert Band) - Graham, Peter
Gaelforce follows in Cry of the Celts style, and using three traditional folk tunes exploits the colour and variety of the modern wind band. Firstly, the slip jig, The Rocky Road to Dublin features the woodwind section. The Minstrel Boy, and the final reel, Tossing the Feathers, have both recently enjoyed renewed popularity courtesy of The Corrs. The Minstrel Boy here features the solo flugel horn in contrast with woodwind choir and mellow voices, while Tossing the Feathers is something of a tour de force for drums, woodwind, and eventually the whole band.
