No Stop Rock - Carmine Pastore
A Grade 1 rock anthem! It's a perfect way to keep your beginners motivated while you drill them on that new concept called "eighth notes." Lots of repetition of simple eighth note figures will help your young band players enter the fascinating world of the divided beat with ease. This solid minor key rock-type piece will also help to keep your audience attentive by letting them hear a bit of a style they are so accustomed to. The overwhelming rhythmic nature of the piece also makes it a possible choice for use with an elementary level massed band. When faced with more than 100 beginners at a time, one likes to do music that has a beat they can hang on to! Whether it's for asmall one-school band or a giant massed group, this one is sure to work for you.

School's Cool - Jacob de Haan
This short, "cool" suite in three movements can be performed with a variety of instruments from a handful of players to a complete concert band. The first movement radiates joy with a powerful 3/4 beat. The second movement is in the style of a pavane, which gives a sense of nostalgia and the final movement forms a cheerful and high-spirited closing with a really funky beat. This wonderful suite has been composed especially for youth musicians and they will all gain great pleasure from performing it.Because of the four-part instrumentation, School's Cool is suitable for smaller strengths, taking into account that it is important to divide parts evenly among the players. Alsoincludes an ad-lib keyboard/piano part to support the ensemble.

Flying Colors - Robert Buckley
Imagine a band far off in the distance marching toward you - soft at first, the music becomes louder and louder: the red capes of the band sway in the wind, getting closer and closer. It was this image that inspired Flying Colors.Famed bandmaster Arthur Delamont always programmed a march in his concerts, and the hallmark of his band was their red capes. The work begins very softly with a distant snare drum beat. The trumpets enter quietly with the melody, and with each new melodic entry the music grows and intensifies to a roaring finish. This is a fresh new take on a march, and is sure to please players and audiences alike! Flying Colors is the third movement of A Tribute toArthur Delamont and was commissioned by the West Vancouver Youth Band. Dur: 3:10

Seid - Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen
Seid (pronounced sayed was a divination ceremony practised by the Vikings which could be used to reveal knowledge of the future. During the ceremony, woman sang incantations and the Seeress (Vlva) passed into a kind of trance. In other arctic cultures similar ceremonies took place during which the Medicine man (Sage), or Shaman, would beat a drum covered with magic runes, and he too would pass into a trance, reaching the deepest part of his own sub-consciousness - a journey beyond time and space... "Seid" was commissioned by The Norwegian Band Federation and European Brass Band Assosiation for the European Brass Band Championship in 1996. The version for Concert Bandwas commissioned by Frode Amundsen and Borge Musikkorps in 2018. Supported by NOPA (Norwegian Society of Composers and Lyricists)
