In a world where food is rationed based on wealth and status, people experiencing poverty have formed a task force to gain equality. Insurgence, by Rossano Galante, begins with a driving, rhythmic ostinato in the winds, low brass, and percussion. Soaring, aggressive horn lines take the lead in this post-apocalyptic setting. This theme is passed to the trumpets, then the winds, heralding their presence in this work. The piece transitions to a slightly lyrical section, capturing the pain and struggle these humans must endure during these challenging times. The piece recapitulates the main theme with the full ensemble, bringing this composition to a thunderous conclusion. (3:30)

This concert march with a solemn and festive character was commissioned to Gauthier Dupertuis by the the Musikkapelle Altheim e.V (Germany) to celebrate its 100th anniversary. The thematic material of the first section of the march is based on a three-note motif, proclaimed by the brass in the first measure. The second part of this theme presents a recurring motif throughout the piece. This first section has a festive and resolutely giocoso character. The trio presents a new, more lyrical and solemn theme. After a short divertimento based on the material from the first section, the theme returns in a majestic way, leading to a climactic finale. Altheim: a concert march perfect for a festive occasion!

Through a musical style rich in emotion and power, this work celebrates the "survivors" - those who, despite the hardships of war and injury, continue to pick themselves up, overcome adversity, and find within themselves an unshakeable determination. Survivors embodies both the enormity of the struggle and the hope of reconstruction, a march for those who have been wounded but who, through their courage, have become survivors. This concert march was commissioned by the French Army bands on the initiative of their musical director, Maurice Marc.

A version for brass band was written for Manger Musikklag and recorded by them on "Grafitti", Bjrn Sagstad conducting.
